A hot contender for my pick of the week. This comic reunites writer Paul Dini and artist Dustin Nguyen with a new hot-off-the-presses Batman book. From the name I thought this would be something of a successor to the title Gotham Central, but is more of a continuation of Dini’s work on Detective. This is a solid work of comic book-dom and should be a must-buy for the caped crusader fan.

Plus if this isn’t enough the back-up story continues the story of Kate Spencer, also known as the Manhunter. The great little comic that couldn’t quite pull the numbers to keep flying as a solo book. I think pairing her in a Dini Bat title is just the bump the character needs to get her on the map. In addition to starting off an interesting status quo I loved the way Karl Story’s pencils looked with the washed out colors of Nick Filardi.

The high quality of recent Bat-books is something I’ve been quite happy about. The only problem is the strain on my wallet with all the new titles. I’d also like to take the opportunity to thank DC for giving us ten more pages to go with the price hike. This is a 3.99 I have no problem spending.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good
