Confusing from the get-go, the whole Batman R.I.P. saga in my opinion was an absolute train-wreck.  Grant Morrison has a reputation of being a brilliant, over-the-top writer, but there are stories like this one and Final Crisis that just leave you scratching your head at the end of the day.  I thought I almost understood what was going on last issue, but as soon as I dove headfirst into this final chapter, all hope of understanding went right out the window.

If it wasn’t for the Alex Ross covers, I would have dropped this at issue two.

Now that Morrison has had his fun, can we have some enjoyable Batman stories now?

Story: 1 - Poor
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. "Now that Morrison has had his fun, can we have some enjoyable Batman stories now?"

    Amen!

  2. Thank You!!  There is somebody else out there who feels my pain.  I just read this issue three times and I still can’t figure out what the fuck is going on!  What is RIP supposed to stand for?  Was that Doctor Hurt guy really Thomas Wayne or what?  Who was he if he wasn’t?  Well it looks like Jezebel Jet was in on it the whole time but why?  What the hell was the henchmen talking about when he mention Commisioner Gordon’s name while torturing that Gotham City police officer at the end of the book?  What happens then?

If it wasn’t for Paul Dini’s Heart of HUSH story, I wouldn’t have liked RIP one bit.

DC says that their Vertigo line is for more mature readers, yet they’re more understandable then their regular superhero DC Universe titles!

Thought i was the only one thinkin’ about how lame has Morrison become… I haven’t forgiven him for fucking up the X-men.

  4. Since I’ve seen the question a few times, RIP stands for "Rest In Peace"…a message sometimes put in haste on a makeshift grave marker.   The term RIP is a fairly well-known, non-Batman term…but clearly not everyone has heard of the phrase.

I’m torn on this run…I’ve enjoyed each issue because of the interesting characters and great art, but I am near-completely lost on what is going on, and I hate the extended Bat-family.

  5. Honestly, I found this (and even moreso Final Crisis) to actually be Morrisonat his more lucid, and closer to the top of his game. I would rank this among the top Batman stories of the year. Not the best of his run (that would be Club of Heroes) but good

  6. I kept buying this because I really wanted to understand and like this. And at the end of the day all I have to say is WTF and I want my money back.

  7. thank god! some sane people! got the trade (yes i know im way behind)

what a lump of shit! its complete shit!
