How exciting to have R.I.P.’s conclusion in my hands this afternoon. Finally, this is going to make sense..

or maybe not.

I shouldn’t feel this way after reading the conclusion to an arc. What I should feel is a sense of closure, even if I haven’t received all the answers. I absolutely loathe the fact that the first thing I’m compelled to do after each issue is come here to make sense of it.

It’s simple: I wanna read the book for the story, not message boards and Wikipedia.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. But you gave it a 3? Odd.

  2. "It’s simple: I wanna read the book for the story, not message boards and Wikipedia." This is my favorite comment about this story thus far. I agree.

  3. I completely understand – there are times when I crave a simple, one-and-done story, or a longer, multi-issue-spanning action story that allows me to read it once, get a thrill and then move on to other things.  This sotry, as with most things written by Grant Morrison (see Final Crisis for an even better example), wasn’t that.  It was a story that challenges the reader to either invest extra time into analyzng the work and thinking about the story, or to simply "punt" and seek external sources that had already taken the time to analyze the story and then posted it to the web.  For me, I really enjoyed this story and appreciate the fact that I can still go back over it and find new things to work on.  But I would never suggest that this story would be – or should be – entertaining for all audiences.
