Two major fuckups of Spider-Man on Quesada’s watch: One More Day, and the way Quesada draws the spider mask in the backup story of this issue.  Otherwise, ASM continues to be one of the best stories Marvel has going these days.  The plots and subplots move along hastily (perhaps a bit too hastily during that whole Spidey & the FF in a microverse arc), and the art is always good, and sometimes spectacular.

Both the main and backup stories (the backup is directly linked to the recent New Avengers issue…and is written by Bendis, and drawn by the previously mentioned Quesada) are quality work in every way.  If you haven’t been reading Spider-Man, go pick up the trades starting with Brand New Day and spend a while catching up with Mr. Parker and his amazing friends.

  1. Interesting review. I am looking forward to reading the back up story. Why do you have a beef with OMD? If you like the current run so much you must be aware that it would not have happened without OMD?

  2. @har13quin- As great as the current run is, it doesn’t change the fact that One More Day was a terrible, terrible story.

  3. I don’t know a damn thing about One More Day, but Brand New Day, and pretty much everything that came after it, were fun comics.

    The only Mary Jane I’m really familiar with is the teenager MJ from Ultimate Spidey so this is going to be a totally new experience for me!  I can’t wait until high noon.

  4. @har13quin: My main beef with One More Day is that the "magical divorce" story was incredibly over the top, and an unnecessary way to reboot the series.  I mean, Straczynsky ased to have his name taken off the last issue (they declined) he was so annoyed by the editorial mandate that he was told to follow.

     Yes, there are great stories now, but they could have found a better way to get there.

     @robbydzwonar: you’re in for fun!
