You know now that I have finally gotten to see Peter Parker's pimp side, I really feel as if we have a lot in common other than the whole superhero thing. Me and Peter just kind of think alike.
See this is the whole reason why I dig Amazing Spiderman so much more than Ultimate Spiderman now. Ultimate Spidey shows Pete in his high school glory days. That would've been fun if I was still a teenager when it came out, but it just missed by a couple years. Amazing Spiderman on the other hand, we get a Peter Parker who is more my age. He's single, he has a job that he is trying to keep, and he has some terrible luck. That is basically my life in a nutshell, that's why it is so fun to see what it would be like if I was a superman. I find this side of Peter a hell of a lot more interesting. Sometimes the Peter Parker parts of the story are more entertaining than the parts when he is in his Spiderman uniform.
After reading Amazing Spiderman #600, I was really thinking about just quitting the whole three times a month thing, and just waiting for the hardcovers. After all, a book that comes out three times a month will have an arc finish in less than two months. With Marvel's good track record of getting reprint collections out, I don't see why I would have to wait very long to get this latest arc in hardcover.
In one way I wish I could wait for the hardcover though. From just reading this first issue I can tell that the next few issues are going to look great. Well this issue anyway, would look great in the format.
But like everything else I'm reading, I just totally suck at waiting for trades. I had myself convince that I was going to trade wait The Marvels Project at one point, that all changed today when I saw it on the rack and flipped through it. I had no idea that it was supposed to be out this week, but I knew I couldn't wait 10 fucking months to read that. No way. I had to have it now.
The same goes for Amazing Spiderman. I haven't missed one issue since this whole Brand New Day jont started, and I've barely touched Ultimate Spidey since. ASM has been so good ever since they did the reboot. Everybody says that things were better before but I wouldn't know because I didn't switch from Ultimate to Amazing until the reboot. The last 50 issues have been great!
The surprising thing is that this issue seems like it is better than the last 50. I can't think of an issue of ASM that was as good as this one, not even the one where Peter walks in on Aunt May and JJJ's dad getting their freak on!! The part where Peter wakes up half drunk next to a chick and doesn't remember who it is cracked me the fuck up!! That was so awesome.
The rest of the issue didn't let down either. I thought it was hilarious how it took Peter half his day to figure out what happened last night! It was like Dude Wheres My Car meets Spidey, not that I like Dude Wheres My Car?! It sounds like Aunt May had a real bash of a wedding reception. I wish that I could've been there. There were probably all sorts of single and beautiful girls there, but Peter always manages to have a few of them around in his story. That is because he is the fucking man!!
There isn't much action in this issue but I still wasn't let down. Spiderman gets to save a bunch of heads from a burning building. It is pretty cool how he goes about doing it because he wasn't able to reach the fire hose! I really enjoyed the Peter Parker scenes so much more though!
I had so a great time with this issue. The art looked a lot better than #600. Either they switched to another artist, or the person wasn't in that much of a rush this time. I'm not sure but it looked a lot better. That is another reason I wish I could just wait to get the hardcover!
There were a hell of a lot of good books this week, oh my God. I still have a couple more I need to check out left in my stack, but ASM #601 definitely has some Pick Of The Week potential!! And that is saying a lot from a guy who pulls 80 percent DC books most of the time.

I ended up selling all of my Brand New Day back to the shop. I just didn’t care for it. I really liked the Joe Kelly run though and I’m glad I decided to jump back on. I don’t think I got as much enjoyment out of this as you did. But I still love Spidey. Great review!!!!
