TIME MASTERS VANISHING POINT #2 (OF 6)

“The Search for The Batman!” part 2 of 6!

Already lost in the time stream while searching for the missing Caped Crusader, Rip Hunter and his ad hoc Time Masters (Booster Gold, Superman and Green Lantern) may not live long enough to make it out of the barbaric age they find themselves sidelined into. Will Claw the Conqueror be able to help them or will he be their doom?

You won’t want to miss this companion series to the highly anticipated BATMAN: THE RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE!

  1. I like this so much more than I ever liked Return of Bruce Wayne. Too bad it is coming out so long after RoBW.

  2. @Minon – But RoBW isn’t over?  This complements RoBW quite nicely.

  3. RoBW’s been delayed a bit too so this shouldn’t go too far past that.  First issue was solid and I like the concept but I’ll be skipping this one for now.  Not quite worth the 3.99/32p to me.

  4. @stuclach I know its not over but I’m done with it. And its what at issue five while this is at issue two?

  5. I lost interest after the first issue, but I order in advance so I’ll be getting this as well.  I don’t see anything in this book being so pertinent that it would be necessary to buy.

  6. I liked Jurgens latest run on Booster Gold and this satisfies me for that type of time travelling storyline that I am missing from not getting Booster Gold anymore.

I really liked the first issue.

  7. @Minion – I think that’s right.

  8. @Minion: It had to come out a couple of issue after ROBW. They’re literally chasing Bruce through time. It wouldn’t make any sense if they were coming out simultaneously.

  9. The first issue seemed like a totally beside-the-point cash grab, even though DC didn’t put "Return of Bruce Wayne continues here!" branding on this. Maybe Jurgens will bring something more to the table, but the first issue seemed like the most boring, conventional time-travel routine I could imagine. It’s not that I need this issue to shed light on RoBW, or tell me anything new about where Bruce is…but I know that I’m not going to get any important information on that front, and it doesn’t look like Jurgens has anything interesting to say with the four protagonists he’s got. It’s like DC told him "We’re going to do this book because RoBW readers will buy it." Jurgens: "But I don’t really have a story for Rip and Booster at the moment." DC: "That doesn’t matter, because this tie-in isn’t supposed to mean anything. Just put in some dinosaurs."

  10. Dropped because the price jumped between issues!  I wasn’t that impressed by the first issue, but I was going to stick it out because I love me some Booster Gold. Then I saw this 32pg book was going up to $3.99 and that made things much easier.

  11. Rip Hunter is a badass.  I just love that character.  Jurgens writing him?  I’m in till its done.

  12. I just finished reading the second issue, and I loved it.  It is in definite contention for my POTW.  Issue two is a vast improvement over the first issue, which I think was a rather run-of-the-mill time travel story.  In this second installment, however, we get some cool action with Claw, who is admittedly is a new character to me, and some great character moments.  We learn about Rip Hunter — who he is and what motivates him.  We also get a peak into who Booster Gold really is, or you could say a re-definition of who Booster is, as perhaps one of the more tragic characters of the DCU.  This story had everything, and I can’t wait for the next issue.

For those of you who are commenting about the ROBW tie-in "money grab", I think your missing the point of this story.  (Of course, this is totally understandable based solely on the first issue and how this series was marketed.)   This story is not a Bruce Wayne/Batman story.  This is a Rip Hunter and Booster Gold story.  This is a story about the time stream, and the fact that they’re looking for Bruce is merely a McGuffin, or plot device, to grab the reader’s attention and push the plot forward.  The real point of the story is how these events affect Rip and Booster.  Even Hal and Superman are kind of after thoughts in this whole affair (at least up to this point in the story.)

  13. I wasn’t happy with the quality of my books this week and I’m dropping a couple because of it.

This could have been a Booster Gold arc in the regular comic. It is Rip Hunter/Booster Gold and a couple super heroes working behind the scenes during what will probably be an important event in DC history: The Return of Batman.

That is what some of the Booster Gold comics did. They explored between the panel moments and worked the background during important DC events like the Killing Joke and the destruction of Hal Jordan’s city.

This is nothing new for Jurgens. If you bought it purely because you cannot NOT buy tie-ins then blame your own buying habits not the story that holds to the quality of the original title.

3/5 and possibly pick of the week.

  14. Didn’t really enjoy this except for a few Booster Gold scenes. Why is the Black Beetle suddenly read?

  15. I loved this book but not quite a pick of the week.

@PraxJarvin Black Beatle created a paralell timeline so he could capture the red beetle because as the Black Beetle he had to absorb Chronal energy from other time travelers to travel in time. Now he is much stronger. It was done in an arc in Booster Gold.
