SUPERBOY #2

  1. #1 was a POTW for me.  Lemire.  Superboy.  Great cover.  Sold.

  2. The varient cover for this is awesome. I’ll try find a link.

I like the first issue, but wasn’t blown away, I’ve got a good feeling about the series though

  3. @Zeppo  I’m with you about not being blown away, but I really like the character, so I’m on.

  4. Last issue was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it.

Hope to see more of the same here.

  5. I dont know much about the superman family and his corner of the DCU, but jesus, last issue snuck up on me with how good it was. I never doubt Lemire, but damn! Can’t wait.

  6. The covers for this in general can sell me. First issue was good fun.

  7. Jeff Lemire & Superboy = Pick This Book Up NOW!

  8. @Ultron8: QFT

  9. I hadn’t read a Superboy comic since I was a kid in the mid-90’s, but I picked up issue 1 on the merit of Lemire’s work on Sweet Tooth, Essex County, and The Nobody. I was hooked on the spot. Lemire made the character totally accessible to me, and I love Pier Gallo’s art. Can’t wait for this.

  10. My store didn’t have the first issue, but I was gonna maybe check it out.  The only Lemire I’ve read is the Atom back-up, which I think is incredibly boring.  Is this book more fun than his Atom stuff?

  11. I think the Atom one-shot and backups have been great, to each his own though.  Superboy is awesome and I’m super excited about Poison Ivy dropping in…look at that gorgeous cover!

  12. i couldnt care less about a character than i do superboy and i loved the first issue! top of the stack for me this week!

  13. great cover

  14. Almost forgot to pull this because I skipped over it since it started with Super.

  15. @BCDX97  – Couldn’t agree more about the Atom back up. Issue one was definately better than that, but like several people have said, I wasn’t blown away. I’ll give it another issue or two, mainly due to my love of the character.

  16. @Minion: Aw, no love for the Superman family?

  17. @PozrDu Mostly just hate for JMS Superman. Nothing against Supergirl. I just haven’t read it.

  18. Lots of vine and tentacle stuff on DC covers lately.

    …..Just Saying.

  19. ^^ Next event: Greenest Night?

  20. Children of the corn?

  21. The art really grew on me here and so did the story so I’ll defineitly be picking this up next month.

  22. Just didn’t like this issue as much as the last. Still not feeling the art either.

  23. I loved this issue! I reall dig the art and lemurs writing, it’s so much more optimistic than what he usually writes and is just a lot of fun!

  24. I enjoyed this pretty well but the art on the faces is still off, looks really strange in places. But it was still a pretty solid and fun story, nothing extraordinary for me but I’m liking the fact that the issues can stand alone but are all a part of a bigger mystery. Hopefully it will get better as it goes on.

  25. This was a pretty good second issue, but there are some letdowns here. The story doesn’t seem to have much focus to it and I thought Lemire’s take on Poison Ivy was generic at best. Plus the coloring was a bit too bright and cheerful for a supposed ‘dark’ tone. Plus we have some more funky faces by Gallo as well.

But the new villains being put to light and the art still being good overall still made me enjoy it overall. I just hope next issue is a bit more focused with Lemire and Gallo.

4/5 (POTW, not much of a choice since it’s the ONLY book this week)

  26. How did Conner go from being a funny egomaniac to the cardboard cut-out of a character he is today? — no personality whatsoever.  I was really hoping Lemeire would turn things around for him, but I’m just not feeling the art or the Smallville heroics.  I’ll give it a few more issues, but I’m no longer holding my breath.

  27. Art and Story improved this issue. I’ve liked both issues, but for some reason this series hasn’t clicked with me yet, not in the way Sweet Tooth has. I’m sticking with it though.

  28. I rather liked Parasite Frogs, cracked me up!  Im kinda seeing Simon as a scientific Jimmy Olsen….and putting a different spin on some of those old Jimmy Olsen stories that gave us Turtle Boy and Elastic Lad.   Keep it up, cause this has a lot of promise!

  29. This issue was great!  I loved the parasite frogs and Conner’s science genius “side kick” Simon.  Really fun, looking forward to more.

  30. The story was fun, the frogs too much, and love the Lex Luthor cum Jimmy Olsen best friend. Not digging the art here. The humor in the art was there, but the faces were awkward and often uncomfortable. Ivy’s body and costume were weird…yet the half naked old farmer man looked great…(I know that sounds weird)…I’ll give it to the end of the arc at least, but not sure much after that, good writing is useless with poor art.
