DEBRIS #1

In the far future, humanity has doomed planet earth to rot and decay, covering her surface with garbage. 1. Hey everyone! I’m super excited about this new series! If you enjoyed Riley and I together on Green Wake, you’re in a for a whole new experience while still getting that creative chemistry that we share. We are both very stoked to do something completely new together and I seriously think you’ll have a lot of fun with this. Give the first issue a go just for the art alone, it’s absolutely stunning. Riley’s cleaner line work is coloured by Owen Gieni, who’s giving it a very European look and feel. I love it. Hope you do to! Here’s a link to my blog with a bit of info and some teasers.

  2. Been enjoying the avalanche of new stuff you’ve been releasing! With your track record, I’ll definitely be giving this a shot

    • Thanks Mike! I think 2012 has been the busiest year of my life. Sometimes I don’t know what the hell I’m thinking. At the very least I’m keeping people entertained!

  3. Im Really bummed out that Green Wake couldent go on any longer, but i want you to know Mr. Wiebe that i thought the ending was perfect. That image of Morly pushing peoples guilt back where it came is going to be in my head for a very long time. So thanks for that. And i cant wait to read this!
P.S. Ill do my best to make sure Peter Panzerfaust make it to #30!

    • T.G.
Thanks for the kind words about Green Wake. It was a series very close to me and to know that it was something that had a real impact on you makes all the trials and tribulations of the series very much worth it. I hope you enjoy Debris and I promise more awesome things coming up in Peter Panzerfaust!

    • Its Great to hear a reply from you Mr.Wiebe!
      Thank you very much!

  4. This is my first Wiebe book.

I’ve been digging Sc-Fi comics a lot recently, so I’m gonna check this out. If it is uber badass I’ma go check out dude’s other stuff.

  5. I will be picking this up since Green Wake, Peter Panzerfaust, and Rebel Blood have been some of my favorite books from Image lately.. I hope this does well enough so that we can see a fancy trade paper back with lots of bonus material in it.

    • This is the problem I have, I always want to buy individual issues, but waiting for the trade is cheaper, and has bonus material (character designs, early pencilled pages, script pages etc), and it’s made me think “why bother picking issues up when I can wait six months, see reviews for all of the issues, and then make a fully informed decision”.

This isn’t anything against Kurtis/Riley/Image, in fact I bought Grim Leaper, I just don’t feel that I want to read 1 chapter when I could read the whole book relatively soon.

    • I’ve been having that same internal debate for a lot of books right now, but especially the Image stuff. Books like Manhattan Projects, Saga, and Thief of Thieves are some of my most anticipated books every month, but I cant help but think that the inevitable hardcover collections are just more worth my dollar then buying the single issues.

I’ll just probably end up double dipping it seems. Such it the way it goes.

    • For mini-series like this, it isn’t such a bad thing to wait for the TPB truthfully. We know it’ll only ever be 4 issues with no long term plans. With Green Wake it was different as it was planned to be 25 issues but the singles sales couldn’t even carry us towards the TPB, so it’s more important for long form stories to invest in the singles.

      That’s how I see it.

At any rate, support is support and we’re grateful to have you behind the series however that may look: singles, digital or trade.

    • Thanks for the reply Kurtis! I know what you mean about singles for an ongoing series, I just switched from trades to singles on Morning Glories, and I promise I will support your work in future, as everything I’ve read of yours so far has been very good!
My apologies that the semi-rant happened to be spouted on the Debris page here, it’s nothing against your work, or this comic, which looks and sounds excellent.

  6. very excited for this series. Everything about it seems like the perfect storm for what i want out of a comic right now….

  7. I very much like how both Kurtis and Riley have not only both been incredibly consistent with their new material, but that all of the new material vastly differs. It really brings an increased freshness to my weekly stack.

    • We’re already talking about something new for next year. There’s a definitely creative chemistry between us so we’re always looking for more opportunities to work together. Enjoy Debris #1!

  8. This will be the first series Kurtis brought out this year that I’ll be reading since the premise on this one sounds awesome

    • Hey, thanks for giving my work a go! This is a style of story I’ve always wanted to write, a little bit Science Fantasy with a nod to my favourite Japanese films; Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa.

  9. I like how this book has the most comments yet is rocking the “no cover image available.” I mean that in a good way.

    • Yeah, I’ve noticed the Image comic covers stay that way for awhile, usually get filled out after the comic is out. Very strange. I don’t think Peter Panzerfaust #5 even got the cover and write up at all.

  10. I had to come over here to see what the fuss is all about. Oh yeah, Kurtis Wiebe’s got some books out this week.

  11. Hopefully my shop will have this by the time I get there on Friday. This will also serve as a reminder to me to ask my shop to order green wake vol.2.

Thanks to Paul Montgomery for reminding me about this in “Light Week?”. I had somehow overlooked it when doing my pulls.

  12. Congrats Mr. Wiebe, another great book. After this, Green Wake, Peter Panzerfaust, Grim Reaper (havent read Intrepids but will definitely pick it up) you have solidified yourself as a writer that i will blindly purchase a book from as long as your name is attached. Thank you, sir. I hope you come to Chicago for any convention sometime so that I can shake your hand.

  13. Been looking forward to this book for awhile, unfortunately I left it sitting behind on the counter of my lcs. Guess I’ll have to wait a little longer. Luckily I have to go back saturday anyway.

  14. really, really excited to read the rest of this! Sci-fi is my bag baby!!

  15. Riley Rossmo, Another Dimension comics loves you! lot of your stuff there.
