BIRDS OF PREY #1

One is wanted for a murder she didn’t commit. The other is on the run because she knows too much. They are Dinah Laurel Lance and Ev Crawford – a.k.a. Black Canary and Starling – and together, as Gotham City’s covert ops team, they’re taking down the villains other heroes can’t touch. But now they’ve attracted the attention of a grizzled newspaper reporter who wants to expose them, as well as a creepy, chameleon-like strike team that’s out to kill them.

Don’t miss the start of this hard-hitting new series from mystery novelist/comics writer Duane Swierczynski (Expiration Date, Cable).

  1. I’m picking this up solely for the creative team. I could care less about the actual superheroes in this book in general. But with Swierczynski writing and Saiz drawing an ongoing series again this could be a great, sleeper hit for DC. I hope that’s the case.

  2. Giving this one a shot…if I’m not blown away, it won’t be on my pull list…of course, if they put Stephanie Brown in there in future books, I’ll most likely pick it up…I miss Steph!

  3. hopefully DC didn’t shoot itself in the foot with the controversy surrounding the #4 solicit.

  4. Saiz is awesome.

  5. Birds of Prey has always been one of my favorite books. I hope this book can retain a tone that’s similair to the old volumes. While i’m sort of hesitant picking it up without someone like Gail Simone or Nicola Scott on it, I’m sure this team will do a good job.

  6. No brainer for me, I’m a huge BoP fan. I think this is also the first Swierczynski DC book I’ll be reading.

  7. I am definitely looking forward to seeing what Swierczynski is going to bring to the table with his writing.

  8. Is this going to be fun… or folly? I hope the team dynamics are good and that this creative team puts an emphasis on characters. I like action don’t get me wrong, I just like it when the creators make me care about what is happening.

  9. Was surprised how much I enjoyed the preview for this. I hope the rest of the book is just as compelling!

  10. I really liked this. Babs was more entertaining in her 4 pages here than in her entire Batgirl appearance. Second best of the week for me behind Batman.

  11. This had a very similar feel in the storytelling that Red Hood and the Outlaws had for me. I could feel the adrenaline in both with the characters thorougly enjoying what they were doing. Is it too early to ask for a team-up between these two yet?

  12. 4 liked it a lot, almost pick of the week for me.

    Just sayin’,

    K

  13. Good book gave it a 4. Didn’t love the art style but it did a good job of telling the story. Liked the characters who are all new to me and loved the hook at the end to make me buy issue #2. Perfectly executing launch issue. Bravo!

  14. This book should not have less pulls than the dopey Blue Beetle (bring back Ted!)

  15. My pick of the week: would never have bought it if I wasn’t trying all 52! Apparently, I’m the first to truly give it POW as it was at 0.0% until now. Slow down that Batman landslide people!!

  16. really fun. Very surprised at how good this was. I would have liked to have met the entire team, but regardless i think i’ll stick around on this one for a while.

  17. I have very limited experience with these characters, and may have never picked this up but I saw Duane Swierczynski was signing at a shop near my house and I’d liked his old Punisher work before, so why not?

Hey, it was really good. A good, fun, first book. Cool – this will be one I start picking up regularly.
