Writer Scott Snyder has gotten plenty of accolades for his Batman, Swamp Thing, and American Vampire work around here lately. We’ve also talked to him about how he broke into comics not so long ago. He’d gotten a short story published, and it was noticed by some editors, leading to a gig at Marvel doing Human Torch Comics.
That story was called The 13th Egg, and if you want to read it, we’ve got good news for you. It’s available online now. If you like your superheroes, you’ll enjoy this. As expected, it’s a very good 20 page short story. It originally appeared in the anthology, Who Can Save Us Now?.
If you can’t get enough Snyder, you’ll want to make sure to listen to his whole story in this Talksplode we did a little while back. Or perhaps you’d like to watch his video appearance on our 300th episode live video chat? You can do that too.
And with that post, we’ve done it! Scott got more ink on iFanboy this week than ever before. Good work everyone.

Awesome, now I have something to read on my long train ride home. That’s a really nice cover too. I might have to check out the whole book.
Wait, this website is made with ink!? WTF!!? Witches!!! WITCHES!!!
I can’t wait to read this! thanks for sharing guys, great find!

I actually just bought this last week.
And it has yet to arrive….goddamn Amazon.
yes I concur Voodoo heart is awesome
Way cool. I look forward to reading this. Thanks for flagging it up.
His first work, the Human Torch comic mentioned in the article, is a really great one-shot and definitely worth picking up. I’ve seen it in dollar bins at cons, so if you happen to see it snatch it up.
It’s the original Human Torch, so it’s a great period piece with beautiful art by Atomic Robo’s Scott Wegener (who I think is going to blow up in the next few years, his work is amazing).
This book is remaindered and in closeout bins at bookstores and cons all over the place, and it’s definitely worth picking up for a couple of bucks. There’s some stories that feel like padding, but Snyder’s is excellent – as are stories from Tom Bissell (a faux magazine feature on a superhero), David Yoo (a support group for folks with superpowers that aren’t too super), Owen King (a superhero short about The Meerkat) and Stephanie Harrell (a Lois Lane tell-all).
Just printed it out – thanks a heap, guys.
I have to be honest, my interest in reading this book is not nearly as intense as wanting to read Scott Snyder’s portion of it. So I clicked the link that Josh used in the article, and read only his story. And the damn thing left me with blue balls. I wanted more, and for me in reading (I admit to being a lazy reader only reading things that really yoke me.), That takes some doing. I want to know more about the character, I want to know more about what happened, just want more, more of that story. So now I have to get the book, dang it!
