THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Teaser Trailer, Now in HD

If you liked that bootleg version we posted yesterday, you'll be pleased to note that the official HD version is now available for your POV web-slinging enjoyment.

Here it is, the official teaser trailer for 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man!

The culmination of this trailer is a fantastic FPS style romp through rooftops of Manhattan, ending with a reflection of Spider-Man. I'm sure we've seen instances of this POV style sequence before, but as an extended scene it's going to make for a thrilling 3D experience on the big screen (remember that this film was actually shot in 3D, so it may be one of the few times it's worth the premium for those glasses).

The other main bits of interest come with the tone. This is a dark trailer. Not just because it's a dim, contrasty bootleg. The overall mood of the piece is simply darker than what Raimi was doing. A major part of that is what feels like the central mystery of the rebooted franchise: the disappearance of Peter's parents. We meet them here in Pete's childhood, and the level of attention given them seems to indicate that they're not simply absent. They're missing.

And yes, Virginia, we're looking at another retelling of the origin story. Though how much real estate that tale will take up, it's too early to say.

Comments

  1. Meh. There’s nothing really wrong with this. I just think I’d be more impressed if I hadn’t just seen this movie in theaters less than ten years ago.

  2. Again even with the trailer in better quality, this isn’t doing anything for me.

Not sure if I agree with a ‘darker’ Spider-Man and Andrew Garfield is doing nothing for me as Parker/Spider-Man. Then you have that POV ending which: A) Makes me a bit sick to watch and B) the CGI quality is very poor. (Especially for a ‘final’ version of this trailer)

I hate judging things with trailers but this little tease doesn’t make me thrilled for 2012.

  3. If that Mirror’s Edge first person parkour thing is a regular part of the movie I’m going to have to skip it in theatres. Too much nausea.

  4. Meh. PS: I’m not a fan of Twilight.

  5. Well this looks a little better now that I can tell what is going on.  I still don’t care for the POV scene but I feel a bit better about the rest.

  6. Eh, nothing here to get to excited about, and I’ve got zero interest in watching yet another retelling of Spider-Man’s origin. Definitely don’t plan on seeing this in the theater.

  7. Well, it has been almost 12 years since they did the origin in a major motion picture. “This ain’t your older brother’s Spider-Man!”

  8. I’m kind of worried that Andrew Garfield barely speaks in the trailer, and when he does, he reminds me WAY too much of Hayden Christensen.

  9. origin stories are always good places to start for a reboot, BUT i feel like the spiderman mythos is pretty common knowledge at this point. I hope its something closer to a 5 minute montage as opposed to an entire movie.

no way i’m seeing this in 3d though..nausea is not enjoyable.

  10. Okay so this is a pass about as exciting as emo Sups in Superman Returns.  I’ll wait for the Netflix instant stream 28-days after the DVD.

  11. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

Well, I think it looks really promising.

  12. I think it looks promising as well, I would imagine that is the whole of the first person section, and that might not even be in the final movie.

Raimi’s films don’t seem to have stood the test of time well so I’m up for a new take. Just hope the origin is skipped past quickly, do we need 45 minutes of spider power discovery again?

  13. Was it filmed for 3D? If so, those scenes in Spidey-vision could be fun.

  14. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

@Smasher  The answer is in the article.

  15. Looks fine to me. I’m guessing the POV stuff is probably just for the trailer. It’s too gimmicky for the final film.

I don’t mind it being dark and serious, but I do hope they let Spidey be witty and jokey like he’s supposed to be. That’s something the Raimi films pretty well failed at.

  16. I’m not seeing anything yet that would justify a reboot, but they still have a year to build up the excitement for me.

  17. Too gimicky? I rather like it. Imagine it in 3D and you’re experiencing how it feels to be Spider-Man, to be able to romp through the NYC urban jungle like it’s your playground.

…Or maybe that’s just they way an ex-parkour person feels…

Eithey way, I like how this really immerses you into the action of Spider-Man. I think it looks fun and I can’t wait to see it in 2012.

  18. Still think it looks great! I will certainly be there, front row, centre. Even if any first-person action makes me sick.

  19. Looks good.  I wish it wasn’t an origin story, but I’m looking forward to it.

  20. The trailer is really depressing for the the first half of it. At first it looks like a kid who becomes donnie darko or something. i hope the movies isnt all ominous and depressing. leave that to batman. If they decide to leave the first person stuff in the movie and its not just for the trailer, you know theres gonna be a mirrors edge rip off/spider man game.

  21. I’m with Paul, this looks rad. I love Emma Stone and I’m really excited to see Andrew Garfield as Pete.

  22. On first watching I wasn’t particularly impressed. I adore Emma Stone, I *adore* Andrew Garfield but I think it was the initial disappointment of making us sit through yet another origin story that even the farthest person from comics knows by now.

On second watch through I started thinking, “Well what’s different?” there were a couple things that popped out at me.
    1. The obvious: Gwen Stacy. I’m intrigued at putting her in from the start and am particularly partial to her and her story. Plus what happens to her really shapes Peter.
    2. As Paul mentions… His parents? Who the what? I know the canon regarding them (I won’t say for those unfamiliar), but when was the last time anything was ever made of it? Were they even mentioned at all in the Raimi films? I’m really interested in how that will be brought in and how it will effect Peter’s psyche.
    3. Peter is not a geek, he’s a loner. I LOVE THIS! It’s so simple, but such a brilliant change. We don’t see him pushing up his glasses, we see him getting wrapped up in his own thing, not connecting with people, being awkward. Spider-man is the everyman hero for us all to relate to. Traditionally he’s been the nerd, the glasses wearing, science loving, jock tormented nerd. One might argue that that’s the person a lot of his previous audience could relate to. But that’s so limited, not to mention a one-dimensional stereotype, especially in this format. To broaden it out to someone that’s awkward and just doesn’t quite fit means he’s now relateable to so many more people. I love it.

On that note, I think that’s why I don’t mind the first person moment. It’s so early, but to me it seems like Webb (we’ve made jokes about his name, right?) is trying to really have the audience make that connection with Peter. To make us think, what would we do? What would it feel like? What if?

So I’ve now gone 360 from blah to pretty darn excited.

  23. PS – Hollywood, I don’t care if you put in a nighttime sewing scene… we are just *never* going to buy the fact that he made that crazy suit himself.

  24. I’m more excited about this than I am Dark Knight Rises (probably because I know DKR will be great). I think Garfield great for the part. He looks young and that’s what I didn’t like in Raimi’s Spider-Man, Toby seemed old. I love the suit! Reminds me of Spider-Man 2099, kind of. I’m ready!

  25. Seems a little too somber. Sure its just a teaser, but it could be a little more light-hearted. I’ll wait til they show some more stuff.

  26. @SCOOTMAN  The Spectacularly Serious Spider-Man

  27. I wish they’d just continue with the movie continuity instead of redoing the origin story again, but, that said, this looks better than the Sam Raimi one, from my perspective anyway, I think it’ll be a good movie. just not sure how needed it is to retell the origin again, unless that’s a quick like 30 min max retelling . . . idk

  28. This look absolutely fantastic! I’m so excited about this movie, without a doubt most anticipated film for me personally!!!

  29. I just want a good Spider-Man film. I think, judging from this trailer, its to early to tell how its really going to be. But I want a Spider-Man thats witty and well you know… My biggest thought is if this movie is going to tie in with the ultimate marvel movies that have been all around. Also is this Ultimate Spider-Man?

  30. I can’t wait to see Mirror’s Edge the movie . I mean Spiderman.

  31. Looks very promising, I am pretty interested on how the tone of the movie comes out in the final cut.

  32. I haven’t cared much about this from all we’ve heard/seen, but this looks pretty good.  It seems to have a different feel and look from the Raimi films, which is a good thing in my book.  And I dig the 1st person POV scene.  Should be fun.

  33. Maybe its my Spider-Man fanboy taking over but that just excited the bejeezus out of me!  I’ve done a 180 on the reboot.

  34. Im so amped for this

  35. I’m very excited for this film. It should be dark, Peter Parker’s life is pretty dark, his parent’s die so he gets to live with his uncle who dies, but then he gets a girlfriend until she dies. I’m sure once he gets the powers he will lighten up a bit. Some intresting talent involved in this film. I have to agree with loveing the stressing of Peter as a loner. No one was like Rami’s Peter Parker at my high school but there were a lot of this Peter Parkers around.

    Love love love.

  36. Ok they won me over, now im excited.

  37. looked like a video game-not a movie

    same old origin story boredom

  38. those CGI scenes when he was scaling the walls and what not looked fake, like really bad fake. I hope those are rough cuts and they plan on cleaning them up.

  39. Raimi did justice to both Peter/Spider-man’s origin, and the characters he interacted with…. This seems to stray away from that, which is not good. I understand that liberties are taken in the film making process, but the fundimentals and overall feel of the source material should always be kept whole, otherwise you risk losing the interest of the core fans in favor of an “artsy” film that appeals to only a select few.

That said, so far I have little to know interest in seeing this.  It’s obviously too early to call, but the vibe and over all impression I get from the trailer is that Garfield may “do what ever a spider can”…but he’s NOT Spider-man!

  40. Oh My F-ing God, unreal….

  41. Interesting that they have included Peter’s parents in the film.  I’m guessing there is some clue to their identities and what happened to them in the briefcase.  If you are going to start all over again, go with something we haven’t seen before.  I’ll probably be there opening weekend.

  42. I think it looks excellent.  I’m definitely looking forward to it.

I’ve seen multiple versions of Hamlet, Romeo & Juliet, etc. — I have no problem with movies being remade, re-imagined, or what-have-you, either.

  43. I personally don’t really like Peter’s parents or they spy-ish background, it’s like Reed’s and Tony’s fathers being retconned into super geniuses, diminishes their heroism by adding a sense of legacy and burden.

  44. Just showed this to my sis, who I rely on a lot when it comes to non-comic fans (and a few others), and her immediate reaction was:

‘I just saw an origin film for Spider-Man! Why do I need to see it again?’

  45. @ResurrectionFlan  I mostly agree with you…have to admit to loving SHIELD

  46. Agreed. Do not need the origin again so soon. Everyone knows they just changed up the cast & crew because they don’t want to pay the higher salaries. They don’t need to pretend like everybody’s coming to Spider-man fresh and new. Just because a new writer comes aboard the book doesn’t mean they get to tell their version of the origin story. What a waste of time.
I hope this doesn’t mean that they’re going to work the whole secret agent parents thing into the origin here too. Oy.

  47. Didn’t like the ‘shaky cam’ version and this does nothing to change my mind.

The tone is wrong for a Spider-Man film, Garfield is completely wrong for Peter and the first person web slinging is an irritating gimick.

It’s also still way to early to be rebooting. It’s weird watching a different origin story only a few years after the last one.

  48. I’m certainly excited for this movie (although I do not think Andrew Garfield is a terribly good actor), and for the most part, I really liked this trailer.

This being said, the cg pov shot at the end did feel pretty corny.  The cg seemed really mediocre, and felt reminiscent of a spiderman ps2 game

  49. do we really need another spiderman origin story movie, the answer is no

  50. Soooo…. when did a bunch of grumpy old men begin posting on the iFanboy boards? “Back in MY day Spider-Man had ORGANIC web-shooters, and we LIKED IT!”

I think this looks very cool. As stated above, Pete as a longer (as @itsbecca put it above) is really interesting, the thing with his parents is really interested… aside from being bitten by a spider to get his powers, it seems like they’re going in a completely different direction with this flick than Sam Raimi went with his cheesier (and wildly successful) take.

And I’m sorry, Andrew Garfield looks JUST like 1990’s – 2000’s comic book Peter Parker. Love him in this part, loved him in “Social Network”. Is it a little early for another Spider-Man origin story? Maybe… but that’s as much because of the movies as it is because of ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ and the animated ‘Spectacular Spider-Man’, for me… and because of all the origin stories we’ve seen in the movies over the past ten years, all of which are essentially the same (Thor’s isn’t, which is why it seemed so refreshing to me). And calling this ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ just gives it a whole new vibe, for me. Raimi made a film with the 60’s/70’s Spidey. This looks like 90’s/00’s Spidey, and that’s exciting to me.

Plus, it’s Spider-Man. It’s going to make a buttload of money.

  51. Wow. I used the phrase “to me” a lot in that post…

  52. Andrew Garfield is thin, tall and has lanky hang down arms, and he’s a loner.  In other words, this is Steve Ditko’s Peter Parker brought to life in the 21st century.  Can’t beat that.

  53. Is Andrew Garfield funny at all? I have only seen social network but he doesn’t really seem to have that quick on his feet wit I have been pining for and always seems about to burst into tears?

I really wanted McLovin or Everybody Hates Chris to be Spidey. Now those would be true to the original source material. McLoving basically IS a Ditko drawing.

  54. Well, it has been almost 12 years since they did the origin in a major motion picture”

    2012 – 2002 = ????

Dude, you could have made a good argument based on REAL math… your bad math just makes me want to see it less.

However, Spider-man 3 was 2007…  5 years prior to this one, which in terms of movies and sequels, is not all that long ago.  If the gap between Spider-man 3 and this new Spider-man were 10 years, then I think people would accept it more.

But look… I was originally someone who was OK with a remake/reboot UNTIL I saw the trailer.  I don’t know why, but its just not working here.

  55. Ya they went with the regular webshooters. This trailer was pretty solid although it, like the Dark Knight Rises one, didn’t do anything to wow me. My biggest reaction was that the first person sequence will be amazing in IMAX 3D and I’m really happy they are actually shooting it in 3D instead of going for the crappy conversion we’ve been seeing in every 3D flick since Avatar.
I’m not excited to sit through Spidey’s origin yet again, but I guess I’ll deal with it to see Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben. That’ll make it worth it. I’m also undecided on loner/emo/skateboarding Peter Parker. I’ll Reserve judgement until I see how they handle it, but it feels kind of “Twilight-y” to me…just Hope we get some wisecracking Spidey and from the look of this trailer, I’m not too sure we will…
But damn Andrew Garfield has the perfect look for a Peter Parker, tall and lanky and exactly as I’d picture outside of the comics. He has a better look than Toby McGuire had

  56. I’m confused with one thing in this trailer, and maybe its out of context in the trailer. (Which is always a good possibility)

One scene in the trailer shows Parker pulling away webbing on his neck (or hair?) when looking in the mirror. Yet he’s only suppose to have man made webshooters…..So which is it? Does he have web powers or not?

  57. @TheNextChampion  Yeah that is gross, maybe he has ingrown webshooters?

  58. @RaceMcCloud you deserve a high-five.

  59. @itsbecca  Throw it up!
