This week Paul Montgomery has the Pick of the Week!
Bonus Question: What was the last movie that you purchased for home use?
My pre-ordered Avengers Assemble Phase One Box Set!!
Excited for Uncanny Avengers, New Avengers, Batman and Batgirl, Animal Man, Indestructible Hulk, and Avengers
Brother Lono #1
Avengers #14
Fall of the house of Usher #2
I also might pick up Captain Marvel #13 even though I’m still confused how this cross over event is going to work out.
BQ: I bought the Hunger Games for my fiancĂ© for her birthday but thanks for Shaw on Demand and Netflix I don’t buy or rent many movies anymore.
**COMMENT MODERATED**
Proper rude week with New Avengers, Avengers, Uncanny Avengers, B.P.R.D, Baltimore: The Inquisitor, Dream Thief & 100 Bullets: Brother Lono!
BQ- Terrence Malick’s Badlands!
CONAN THE BARBARIAN #17
BQ: Incendies
Getting:
Animal Man
Wonder Woman
Avengers
New Avengers
And maybe Batman & Batgirl off the racks.
I have no idea, does Batman Year One count? I got that some time this year.
Note: last paragraph is in regards to the BQ:)
UNCANNY AVENGERS #9
WONDER WOMAN #21
AVENGERS #14
AGE OF ULTRON #10
GREEN LANTERN: NEW GUARDIANS #21
BQ: I just bought the director’s cut of Watchmen at Wal*Mart for 4 bucks.
A nice moderate week for me, with some great stuff coming out. I’m excited for more Wonder Woman, BPRD, and a new Baltimore one-shot. I might try out Capt. Midnight from Darkhorse. I hope it’s not a complete Capt. America Rip-off, with the whole man out of time vibe it’s giving off, but it’s 2.99 and I dig the pulpy possibilities.
BPRD
Baltimore
Conan
Fantastic Four
Mind the Gap
Wonder Woman
Captain Midnight (Game-time decision)
BQ: It’s been a while, but the last Criterion Collection sale I picked up “Harold and Maude”, “Three Outlaw Samurai”, and “The Island of Lost Souls”. I highly recommend all of them if you haven’t seen them, and enjoy cinema classics.
I adore Harold and Maude and likewise picked up the last Criterion sale. Hopefully, a new sale is coming soon.
The current sale is still going on, not from Criterion, but other retailers like Best Buy and Amazon.
BQ: Viva Las Vegas blu-ray.
Repo Man criterion edition
Captain Midnight #0, Wild Blue Yonder #1, LSH #21 & Wonder Woman #21.
Have dropped Batman & Robin (Batgirl) #21. Will probably get back on board once ‘Damian’s death aftermath’ arc is out of the way.
BQ : Haywire (very reduced price).
Haywire is great. So underrated. Brian K Vaughn wrote that it was the best Steven Sodebergh movie in a letters column of Saga.
Uncanny Avengers
Avengers
Wonder Woman
New Avengers
Age Of Ultron
Saga TP 2
BQ: you really realize how big of a dent On Demand and Netflix has put on home purchases when you get asked this question. I’d have to guess I bought When Harry Met Sally for my fiance for Christmas.
I bought my mother-in-law Hot Tub Time Machine in a combo with Rogen’s Green Hornet.
Avengers
Saga tp
Uncanny Avengers
BQ: I just brought Fight Club on Bluray, even though I already own it on DVD and I don’t have a Bluray player.
But I’m back with my parents over the summer holidays and they have a Bluray player and my brother hasn’t seen the film yet and I want him to experience it in the best possible quality.
I think this makes me a good brother.
Lots of good stuff this week. Uncanny Avengers (love the Claremont writing style lately) and Wonder Woman. Plus I finally get to read Brian Wood’s Conan as the first TPB is out. And finally, Saga gets even more of my money with Vol. 2.
BQ: I think it was Raimi’s Spider-Man movies on Blu. I have the DVDs and wanted to upgrade, and saw them for $10 each, so figured why not. Those covers are horrible but I guess they didn’t want to pay the rights for the movie artwork or something.
PS – Conor, huzzah on buying Heat on blu. My all-time favourite movie. It is slightly different than the DVD version, as Mann went back and tinkered with it a bit (but nothing jarring, aka George Lucas style).
I got Repo Man and Brazil criterion blu-rays last week. Pure awesome.
Heavy week for me:

BQ: MULHOLLAND DRIVE. I love that movie.
Great choice. One of my top 10 favorite movies of all time. I saw it 3 times in the theatre back when it came out, and have probably watched it over 10 times since then.
UNCANNY AVENGERS #9
AGE OF ULTRON #10
MARA #5
Bonus Question: My Neighbor Totoro Blu-ray, and Seven Samurai Blu-ray (Criterion Collection)
That Criterion Seven Samurai is absolutely fantastic.
Super light week this week, of which I’m eternally grateful.
BALTIMORE: THE INQUISITOR (ONE SHOT)
DREAM THIEF #2
I’ve been meaning to check out the Lord Baltimore stuff and with this being a one shot AND a non-existent week almost, I can’t really say no. I’ll probably also decide finally to either snag the issues of East of West that I missed or trade wait and pass issue one off to a buddy to see if he likes it.
BQ: I bought the missus the special edition of Inception for her birthday (BWAAAAAM).
Top picks of the week. X-Factor, Avengers, New Avengers, Batwoman, Animal Man and X-Men Legacy.
BQ: Red vs Blue 14 disc blu-ray set.
Batman and Batgirl
Batwoman
Birds of Prey
Indestructable Hulk
Batman Beyond Unlimited
Saga TPB Vol 2
Vibe
Red Hood and the Outlaws
BQ: Lego Batman 2 on DVD
@Conor: In regards to Heat, awesome movie. I saw that back in the theater in 1995 I think. And I own the DVD now. I just saw Val KIlmer on Jimmy Fallon the other night. Boy does he look different. Heat was the first meeting between Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro on screen. But they had appeared in the same movie before but they didn’t meet on screen. Can anyone name the movie?…………………
……………………………………………………..
Jeopardy music…………
………………………………….
Times Up
The answer is……..
The Godfather part II
The tougher question would be what was the last movie they appeared in together? Hint: It’s terrible
@phese1 :
Rightheous Kill
YES. The movie that was green lit because of 50 Cent and then released when everybody stopped caring about him.
Yeah, that movie was strange. I went in thinking because of the cast it would be awesome. But alas…….
I soon as I saw 50 Cent attached I knew that a significant portion of it would involve horrendous acting and I wasn’t about to sit through all that. I caught some of it when my room mate was watching it a few years ago. Pretty much what I expected. I still don’t full understand the plot?
Just the final Sweet Tooth trade for me this week and leftovers from my bin.
BQ: I partook of the Criterion sale on Amazon and grabbed Rashamon, The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, and Fritz Lang’s M. I don’t know if excited is the right word, but the one I’m most looking forward to adding now is Shoah.
Good variety of books this week:
Avengers
Batman and Batgirl
Edgar Allen Poe’s Fall Of The House Of Usher
Indestructible Hulk
New Avengers
BQ: Purchased? Oh jeez…..If we talk about Netflix it would be ‘Midnight In Paris’. But purchased…..Probably the movie ‘Waking Life’ which is something everyone should watch.
Yes! “Waking Life” is fantastic, I kept having to pause it because I was still pondering the previous vignette, and missing out on the next.
UNCANNY AVENGERS #9

BQ: I bought Laurence Olivier’s Othello and the Criterion of Stagecoach.

THE SIXTH GUN #32
THE SIXTH GUN: SONS OF THE GUN #4
BQ: I bought Before Sunrise and Before Sunset on DVD to prepare for the 3rd movie.
12 Monkeys on Blu Ray. My wife got it for me as a father’s day gift
“Heat in my scallops.”
I have Astonishing X-Men Volume 2 and Immortal Iron Fist Volume 1 in the post from Amazon with an expected delivery date of between the 20th-23rd, but this week I’m picking up the following comics:

So a pretty big haul this week for me.
Oh, and for the bonus question, Amazing Spider-Man.

AVENGERS #14
BATMAN AND ROBIN #21
CAPTAIN MARVEL #13
FANTASTIC FOUR #9
NEW AVENGERS #7
VIBE #5
WONDER WOMAN #21
BQ: I honestly can’t remember. It was either The Raid, Baverian Sound Studio or Man With The Golden Fists all 3 I’ve picked up cheap recently from Asda. I just don’t know the order.
1. Age of Ultron 10
2. Captain Marvel 13
3. Darth Vader and the 9th Assassin 3
4. Indestructible Hulk 9 (dropping series after 10 though)
5. New Avengers 7 (digitally only)
6. Uncanny Avengers 9
7. Star Wars: The Clone Wars: The Smuggler’s Code (digest)
BQ: This weekend, my wife bought “Pitch Perfect”, via iTunes. The last hardcopy movie I bought (I think) was a blu-ray that contained both “Fantastic Four” and “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.” Terrible movies, but $8 for both on blu-ray, so why not, eh?
Avengers
Animal Man
Baltimore
Captain Marvel
Conan
Hulk
Mara
New Avengers
Revival
Uncanny Avengers
X-Men Legacy
BQ: Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained
Looking forward to Cobra files. I have a feeling it’s been building to something cool. Also want to see how Batman and Batgirl goes. I guit the regular Batgirl title after death in the family and need to fill the void.

Batman and Robin (and Batgirl?)
Birds of Prey (getting it for the Talon crossover)
GI Joe Cobra Files
Superior Spider-Man
Wolverine Max
X-Files
BQ: Superman Unbound animated feature. Unfortunately I wish I didn’t buy it, wasn’t very good. Too bad cause most of these DC animated DVD features usually knock it outta the park.
