Comments

  1. Why no Justice League this week?

    • It’s been delayed

    • It got pushed a week. (So far.)

    • What happened to the “no delays” rule that DC put on its books.

    • Oh well, at least there’s batman

    • @sweetesttoaster: They didn’t make that a “rule” as it would be something unenforceable. They said they were making timeliness a priority.

    • Rules apply to OTHER writers/artists not Jim Lee aka the boss double standard.

      Matthew

    • Light week? I’ll take it, in fact I love it, gives me a chance to dent the stack I’ve been trying to catch up w before lowering my pull and makes the cpl weeks I spend more on not a problem at the end of the month. But at least there’s Batman is right, loving this run and @ mguy77: Sure seems that way doesn’t it but at the end of the day I can give a guy a break when the his workload is heavy and don’t mind short hiatus if its worth it but plenty of artists have they’re hands full too being paid way less so the axe needs to swing both ways, hell color me impressed if Liefield gets all those 5 or 6 titles or however many he’s gonna be working on out on time and I’m not a huge fan of his art, (loved the early Deadpool/Cable/New Mutants/ X-Force) stuff but since then its all looked like 90’s X-Force to me. On another note, Fables one shot might be cool.

  2. Avenging Spiderman and Daredevil. Ghostbusters from IDW has been surprisingly fun.

BQ: We just watched the Ricky Gervais opening Monologue. It wasn’t as great as we expected.

  3. Man that cascade cleaning advertisement scared the crap out of me… i had my speakers half way up.. and that commercial opened up with a boom sound… .. just trying to quietly pick my comics for the week and boom…
    anyway
Most looking forward to the superior conclusion and im dropping nightwing.
BQ .. no i didnt watch the globes.. i catch bits and pieces of it and the academy awards most years but i dont watch them as much as i did a few years back.. cause im tired of watching political picks.. and catch up picks (oscars and globes awarded to 65 plus year old actors and actresses that didnt quite deserve one this year but did deserve like 2 or 3 others during the course of their careers… so now “the academy” is playing catch up and giving an undeserving award… you know.. just in case they drop dead tomorrow… and then of course someone else misses out on a deserving reward.. and the cycle continues).. These shows are re dick a lick a lous.

  4. Big week for me. Chew is finally on the schedule again! Weee!

    Batman
    Chew
    Daredevil
    Green Lantern Corps
    Nightwing
    Thunderbolts

BQ: I did watch it. I was happy to see ‘The Artist’ get a lot of love and hopefully a good push for the Oscars. But the rest of the show was a drag and it was kinda boring. Ricky Gervais absolutely killed but he was on so little of the time he didn’t matter in the long run. Why the hell were celebrities (such as Madonna) were so pissed off at him? His jokes, while still funny, were pretty tamed in comparison to last year’s. I mean if Madonna is going to be upset because he pointed out she acted like a whore for most of her career, which she did, then it shows how stupid Hollywood really is.

    • I think that Gervais is funny as hell.. but he is an asshole.. Have you seen an idiot abroad? he treats his own friends like complete and utter garbage. Seriously im waiting to hear whether or not Karl Pilkington has committed suicide over Gervais’ comments yet. Anyway i could care less about what Gervais says on the globes .. i didnt think last years drug comment about Downy jr was even funny though… so why say it? Again no big deal.. thats his job.. but normaly Gervais is much funnier (than last years globes) .. like in Extras for example (which he also wrote).. He doesnt have to be mean to be funny.. hes more talented than that…

    • @iroberts007: Amen. I love Gervais’s shows and stand-up, but I’ve been saying for years that he’s an intellectual bully. Someone who was probably picked on in school for being smart, so now he’s getting his own back on “dumb” people. I only hope it’s at least partly an act.

    • If you ever get a chance to catch Gervais’ podcast, I recommend it. It kind of puts his sense of humor in a fuller context, and illuminates the world view he’s acquired.

    • Hi maty.. im a big Gervais fan actually .. Im not sure if Ive caught the podcasts that you are referring to.. but HBO has put some of his podcasts with his 2 friends in animated form on TV… for 2 seasons so far.. and i laugh uncontrollably for most of the shows…. but i get the feeling that if i was also friends with Karl P.. i would eventually threaten to kick the hell out of Ricky cause hes just so mean to Karl. Anyway maybe the group of them are just great actors and its all made up.. I have no idea… but it seems real to me. I have to say that from an outsider looking in its really funny though.

    • Gervais is kind of the Costello to Karl P.’s Abbott- it’s just sort of an updated and ‘wordier’ version, in my book. Modern humor tends to be snarkier and well, yes, meaner, as the audience/subject tends to become the butt of the jokes, and not the players themselves. A relic of modern stand-up? Schadenfreude?
I’ll have to check out that animated series. Apparently, there’s a new Karl P. program coming to the Science Channel, where Ricky and Co. send Karl off to participate in a series of stunts and cultural experiences. Sort of and idiot savant travelogue.

    • ya i know that science had the show an idiot abroad… and I know that Gervais wanted Karl back for another show.. Idiot abroad was really funny… ive been to half those places that he goes to as well… Karl’s description of the Taj Mahal. “a diamond in a turd”…. HA… having traveled there.. i understand why he would say that… makes it even more funny. Ignorant but funny nevertheless.
So your saying his banter with Karl maybe staged? I hope for Karl’s sake it is.

    • I’m pretty sure Gervais’s persona is, like most performers, a caricature. What makes his “meanness” work for me is that he is also very down on himself as well and if you note the characters he plays in shows he’s co-written – they’re assholes.

  5. Monday already? Fuuuuuuuuuudge!

    JIM: Fear Itself (HC)
    Thunderbolts: Fear Itself (HC)
Secret Six: The Darkest House (TP)

BQ: I did not, but I’m sure it was very entertaining.

  6. Man, I’m forced to drop a lot of books this week, but there is still some solid gold to choose from. Super excited for Prophet, Ultimate Spider-Man, and Wonder Woman.

BQ: I try to avoid award shows as much as possible, although they do make for good three hour nap sessions.

  7. Dynamite’s practice of launching #1s for only $1.00 – in this case, LORD OF THE JUNGLE #1 – really hooks me in. Let’s give it a go. Sounds like they’re giving us an ultraviolent take on the Tarzan source material (or perhaps just a truer telling of the source material?). Also can’t wait for BATMAN #5, WONDER WOMAN #5, DAREDEVIL #8, and ULT. COMIX SPIDEY #6 😀

BQ: I also thought the Globes were boring this year, partly because Gervais was de-fanged (only figuratively; he actually does have fangs, check it out). I don’t know if that was his own choice or if he was bowing to pressure, but it really showed in his performance, unfortunately. But the show was also flaccid simply because 2011 was a weak year for great cinema. One reviewer noted how badly directed the telecast was; and I totally agree. Any halfway-talented TD would not cut to shots of Dustin Hoffman bored off his ass – and cut to him repeatedly! And cutting to the cast of “The Help” after Gervais joked that Colin Firth was racist was in itself bad taste. Madonna and Johnny Depp being annoying did not help this show. But thank goodness for George Clooney, who – even when making raunchy comments about Fassbender’s penis – still exudes Hollywood class and charisma.

  8. It’s a perfect 5 book week. Love it when there’s 5 books I’ll be reading. Just the right amount. Too bad no JL this week, but that means another 5 book week next week. Most looking forward to Batman, Wonder Woman and Morning Glories. Also reading Nightwing and DCU Presents. The last one I’ll drop after this issue.

BQ: No when was it? I think it’s broadcast over here at some unholy hour, when I’m standing on my back for a couple of hours. That said I hate award shows. Too many commercial breaks, too many people that find themselves very important and somehow think that have be be funny even when they’re not and those shows just take too long. So, not a fan.

  9. Light week for me, thankfully:

    BATMAN #5
    DC UNIVERSE PRESENTS #5
    GREEN LANTERN CORPS #5
    MORNING GLORIES #15
    NIGHTWING #5
    SUPERIOR #7 (OF 7)
    WONDER WOMAN #5

BQ: I flipped around and saw bits and pieces, but I didn’t actively watch. The whole “awards show host mocking celebs” thing has kind of worn thin with me.

  10. BQ: we switched between that and hoarders, and I’m like blah, it’s a bunch of celebrities kissing each others asses.

  11. Wonder Woman #5, Avenging Spider-Man #3, Legion of Monsters #4, Uncanny X-Men #5, Steed & Mrs Peel #1

BQ: I did, but I did some reading at the same time since it was a little… slow. For people who get paid to say other people’s words for a living, most of the actors they had present sure made for some awkward teleprompter readers.

  12. 9 books for me this week. Highlights: Batman, Uncanny X-Force, and Red Hood and the Outlaws!

BQ: I did but then I remembered the last episode of Sherlock was being live streamed and I watched that for three hours.

  13. Whoa. Huge week for me.

Luckily a few were minis ending. A DC mini that is an exception to my usual program slipped in.

I can see I’m going to have to be really selective now.

Time to sit down with the ladies of the New 52. (I didn’t buy any male heroes or teams at all.)

I’m looking forward to Earth-2 and World’s Finest, so who’s getting dropped? Batgirl? Voodoo? Catwoman? Supergirl?

Many one of these two teams. BoP or JLD?

I am so glad I got that Huntress mini, now.

This might be my last hurrah with THUNDER Agents after the mini wraps.

And I really need to stop getting so many Marvel minis. At least of a couple of these titles are getting canceled.

    Hrm…. :-\

  14. Batman & Supergirl make this a good week. Legion of Superheroes has one chance left to justify a spot on my pull list.

  15. Amazing Spider-Man #678, Avengers #21, Avenging Spider-Man #3, Daredevil #8, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #6, Uncanny X-Force #20, Venom #12, Batman #5, Catwoman #5, Nightwing #5, & Red Hood and the Outlaws #5. I’m dropping Invincible Iron Man and Spawn. I’m excited to finally start Batman.
B.Q.: I thought Ricky Gervais was a little weak, but I understand why.

  16. Oh, Jim Lee, you screw the pooch already. Maybe he just woke up, looked at the re-designs he created and suddenly lost the will the draw or his wife just had a baby. Either way

BQ: I think it’s on tonight. so, you know, I’ll make sure to watch something else

  17. I’ve got Daredevil, Uncanny X-Force and Wonder Woman in the line-up- and very much looking forward to all three.

I did watch the Globes on and off- mostly looking for a friend of mine who attended. The camera shots on those awards shows illustrate what a ‘jumpcut’ is, as well inducing vertigo. The last film that I watched in a theater was the final Harry Potter film, so I can’t really claim to be any sort of cinephile or even up to date on the latest releases.

  18. Just Daredevil and Wonder Woman for me… But I REALLY wanna jump on board Uncanny X-Force! Finding that and Wolverine and The X-Men almost impossible to resist!

  19. XENOHOLICS #4
    UNCANNY X-FORCE #20
    BATMAN #5
RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #5
    WONDER WOMAN #5

Not a big fan of award shows

  20. getting:
    Batman
    Wonder Woman

    trying:
    Legion of Superheroes

    might try instead of tradewaiting:
    Uncanny X-Force

annoyed that both Justice League & Fantastic Four are pushed back this week (though people are only talking about JL being pushed back, odd that).

  21. Another big week of comics, this week looks like the most likely to be dropping books from I think. Super excited for moon knight, which has been fantastic. daredevil, which is also fantastic and x-force to. Morning glories really has me back on board as well after it was close to losing me. Oh and batman as well. Good week.

  22. Catwoman, Batman, Hack/Slash, Daredevil, Wonder Woman, Uncanny X-Men (though with Land back whyyy), Uncanny X-Force (will read this sometime), Nightwing, Cobra, Bomb Queen, and the conclusion of Conan: Road of Kings.

BQ: Didn’t was Christina Hendricks there?

  23. Pulling:
    BATMAN #5
    DC UNIVERSE PRESENTS #5
    FABLES #113
    GREEN LANTERN CORPS #5
    UNCANNY X-FORCE #20
    UNCANNY X-MEN #5
    WONDER WOMAN #5

I’m folding under the extreme, almost “volcanic” pressure from Connor and Ron by trying out X-Force this week. I am planning on picking up the trades for the first 18, but this seems like a good jumping on point to start in issues.

    BQ: …No

    • well the funny thing is that the quality has really taken a nose dive in both art and writing in the last two issues…. so its probably no the best time to jump aboard.

  24. All of a sudden I’m picking up three Spider-man books in one week? How did that happen?

In other news: it’s a Chew week!

    BQ: nope.

  25. Some really good books this week…mainly because Batman is out, but also DD, Ult Spidey, Thunder Agents, X-Force and a good few others…some real quality.

BQ: Didn’t see it, but was surprised by the nomination listings. In my head it felt like a really good year for movies, yet there wasn’t loads that excited me in the nominations. Still, nice to see the love for The Descendants and Tintin…but seriously no mention of Tinker Tailor?

  26. Hey there, so my pull list for this week is just Batman, Wonder Woman, and Red Hood and the Outlaws.

I have a question to anyone out there who can answer it. So last week after picking up my goods I was looking at the part of the store where they have extras from previous weeks. So I saw Locke and Key: Clockworks issues 1-3 and so I picked them up just to get fully caught up to the series.

So what I am wondering is when issue 4 is going to come out? I checked IDW’s website however they didn’t display it. So if anyone could help me that would be a great help, because if I miss the next issue even by 1 day I think I will freak! Thanks again!

  27. I haven’t read any previous posts so has this question been answered? Is Marvels The Twelve the one( like its alone in thus boat)that was well received and never finished? Could they have finished it for the book format? If they haven’t, why do this and how hard would it be to go back and finish an issue it two to complete the series? Cough, Frank Miller and Jim Lee’s All-Star Batman and Robin(still loved it) and cough, Ben Templesmith and Ben McCool’s Choker.
