It’s time for an iFlashback, a weekly feature in which we take a look at some comics that were on sale nine years ago. Why nine and not ten? Our Mondays and Wednesdays used to sync up, but 2004 was a leap year so we are off by a day. So jog down memory lane with me. The date is May 12th, 2004 the number one film at the box office is Van Helsing and these are some of the books that are on the stands at your local comic shop.

That was the week that was in comics! The Pulse was Josh’s pick of the week and Orbiter is such a cool OGN! If you see it, grab it. So, did you read any of the books that came out this week? If you did be sure to let us know what you thought of them!
I think you’ve been asked this before, but what website are you getting all these dates from? I’m trying to track down release dates for comics released from about 1999 on to now, but I can only find sites (like ifanboy, comicslist, diamond) that only go back to about 2007. Thanks if you can help!
ComicChron goes back to the mid nineties but only gives you the month that they released.
Thanks, I’ll look into it. I’m looking for sites with the actual on sale date though if Timmy or anyone else knows of such a site.
Gotham Central always a pleasure!
Man that series was awesome.
Gotham Central would make a great base for a show
I only read that Batman issue, but can’t recall the plot. That JLA issue sounds sweet tho.
I read some bad reviews of that JLA book. I know, from the names on the cover it sounds like it could be great, but I guess those guys were just past their prime at this point. 🙁
Except for Ordway I could see that, the cover looks boss.
What the heck was Blue Monday about?
That Hulk issue was very near the end of Bruce Jones run, which started so well, and then kept going and going and going. It sadly went from really good to pretty bad at the end.
I remember liking District X. Sometimes I miss my old Marvel reading days.
I have no idea what Orbiter is, but based on that cover alone, I want o read it.
I actually picked up a few of these when they came out. I got Batman, but I don’t remember a thing about it. Also picked up the Pulse, which was ok, but was no Alias.
Hmmm, I’m pretty sure I also read that Batman story (later in back issues), but can’t recall anything about it now either . . .
I remember Ron LOVING Blue Monday on this site and raved about it at any chance. But I don’t remember what it was about…
Here are some big events, births, and deaths to occur on May 12th:
Events
-1932: Charles Lindbergh Jr. is found dead after ten days into his abduction.
Births
-1907: Katharine Hepburn
-1925: Yogi Berra
-1937: George Carlin
Deaths
-1957: Erich Von Stroheim
-2001: Perry Como
Got the Incredible Hulk vs.(kinda) Iron Man and a few issues of the JLA : TC, not that issue tho, not to sound too offensive but I thought Byrne art looked dated back then, maybe if I reread it I would think otherwise now, stories were ok – good.
Orbiter was quite good. I borrowed it from a friend at some point.
I got some of District X bargain bin diving at some point and it was also really good. I was a massive Bishop fan back in the day (he joined the team right as I started reading regularly), but it came out shortly after I dropped the X-books altogether, and I’m sad I missed out the bulk of it. Even more sad about what they did with Bishop later, but that’s neither here nor there.
God I hated those Wagner covers. Everyone looked like a stone statue. Nguyen on interiors was pretty sweet though.
