It’s time for an iFlashback, a weekly feature in which we take a look at some comics that were on sale nine years ago. Why nine and not ten? Our Mondays and Wednesdays used to sync up, but 2004 was a leap year so we are off by a day.
Jog down memory lane with me. The date is August 11th, 2004 the number one film at the box office is Collateral and these are some of the books that are on the stands at your local comic shop.

That was the week that was in comics. Another installment of Identity Crisis as well as books from Mark Millar, Robert Kirkman and Doug TenNapel. So, did you read any of the books that came out this week? If you did be sure to let us know what you thought of them.
Is Chosen the same thing that was collected as American Jesus? If so, I kept hoping for another volume of that series – don’t think it’ll happen though.
That’s the one. The film seemed to fall apart so I doubt we’ll see Millar going back to it.
Kirkman wrote Cap? Was it any good?
Sadly not. A rare stinker from Kirkman.
I seem to remember it being pretty Silver Age-y. It was a really short run and felt very much like filler while they were gearing up to launch Brubaker’s run.
What flakbait said.
it was downright awful. Thankfully I tried Kirkman on Walking Dead first.
Fables, MK Spider-Man, and Identity Crisis for me. Wish I could finish the MK Spiderman, my library is missing volumes 1 and 2. I’ve read “Chosen” at HPB but put it back on the shelf.
Was Tommyserus Rex any good? Ive seen that at my library but never touched it.
Wow, that was a busy week for me… Other than Tommysaurus Rex and Captain America, I picked up all of those titles.
I’ll admit it, I really liked the Emma Frost comic!
District X: The SEXIEST District!
Yeah, I picked up a bunch of these. Chosen aka American Jesus was pretty good. (Probably the last thing Millar wrote that has any merit, imo) It had what I thought was a good twist ending, and then there was supposedly going to be follow ups to it that never came about.
I was reading comic books nine years ago, but I didn’t buy any of these comics.
Ah, the third issue of Identity Crisis. Love that issue and honestly it might be one of my favorite single issues ever. It was my first introduction to Deathstroke and Meltzer did a great job showcasing how a normal, albeit a talented hitman, can do to a superpowered team.
Here are some big events, births, and deaths to occur on August 11th:
Events
-1984: Ronald Reagan jokingly states on the radio that Russia will be outlawed forever and ‘we will begin bombing in five minutes.’
Births
-1925: Mike Douglas
-1953: Hulk Hogan
-1962: Brian Azzarello
-1964: Jim Lee
Deaths
-2006: Mike Douglas
Mike Douglas died on his birthday? Bummer.
I only picked up Identity Crisis, but damn was that great. Deathstroke s the only non powered guy who beats the crap out of super heroes that I find is believable.
Got NONE of these. Anything good?
