Despite Appearances, New ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Trailer Not Actually Afraid, Just Angry

We’re learning more and more about the arc of Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming The Dark Knight Rises with each new trailer. This next clip from the fine people at…Nokia, spotlight’s the disappearance and eventual return of Batman and Bruce Wayne with a surprisingly comedic undercurrent. Can we expect a far lighter take on Batman’s return to active duty than Frank Miller once envisioned?

Of course there’s some grim stuff too. And Batman wants everyone to be very clear about his emotional state going into that fight with Bane.

Oh, and watch for a policeman to literally lose his hat in all the excitement.

The Dark Knight Rises on July 20th. Hey, that’s just a month and a day from here!

Comments

  1. Hi! Long time reader, first time poster. :D.

This was their best trailer. The music’s really cool and kind of haunting while still being heavy and threatening.

And how awesome was Bane saying “Mr. Wayne”?. Wonderfully threatening and arrogant.

  2. I wonder if that moment of Bruce going from shaggy looking to Batman in the same shot is significant in any way? Or is that just clever editing?

  3. I want Mr. Freeze to put me in cryostasis and have him wake me up exactly on the 20th of July in the morning so I can bare living the month that’s left for this movie to come out! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH *pulls hair from his head*

    • Remember that Southpark episode where Cartman wanted to freeze himself till the release of the Nintendo Wii but wakes up centuries later and finds that the Wii has become obsolete. That could be you buddy.

    • Never saw that episode cause I’m not a fan of South Park.

But, I could turn out to be like Ash in the director’s cut ending of Army of Darkness and waking up during the Apocalypse! 😉 It’s a chance I’m willing to take…

  4. HATE the Bat-Plane. It looks ridiculous.

    • Hasn’t the Bat-Plane always been kind of ridiculous?

    • My problem with the Bat-plane is that in some parts it doesn’t look enough like a plane. The scene with it flying with the missiles behind it jut makes it look like a flying car.

    • Yeah, it looks like just a flying tumbler. Doesn’t help that the shots right before it are of the tumbler too. Should have put some space between the two.

  5. Hot damn this movie looks awesome. Catwoman for the win

  6. I booked my Imax tickets for this last week. Stoked! Might try and go media blackout on it following this trailer…

  7. I am in the end zone of that Heinz Field scene.

    • Also…the company I work for UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) has clearly started doing work in Gotham. This movie is gonna be so great.

  8. Looks like we’ve seen everything Nolan’s willing to show us. Nothin’ left to do but wait. Everything from here on out is just gonna be torture.

  9. Nolan has been doing such a great job keeping us in the dark about Marion Coutillard.

  10. Still makes me think I’m right-on with my Occupy Gotham theory.

    • The Dark Knight Rises started filming months before the Occupy Movement began. I don’t see how one could have had an influence on the other.

  11. Still can’t get excited for this. Which will only let me enjoy it more when it gets here.

  12. Now I just gotta remember to take Batman’s ridiculous voice with a huge grain of salt, and I should enjoy the crap outta this.

  13. any one else think the guy that says who are you while Bane is grabbing him is Twoface?

  14. looks BADAZZ

  15. I think this will end up a lot like the last two Batman movies to me; a bunch of things that I really like put together into a movie that I don’t. The performances, the sets and design, the score (my God, the score)… I just don’t like the way Nolan puts movies together though. Hopefully this one will surprise me and I’ll love it, so fingers crossed!
