Agreed:  suspense would be nice.  Hate to keep comparing but the entire New Avengers run, the first one, was framed by the breakout on the raft.  Capturing escaped criminals, the mystery of who was ultimately behind the mass escape, this sustained the narrative for most of the series.  The weakest stories, the Collective and the post-Secret Invasion runs, were, on some level, distractions from that central storyline, and, as such, missing out on the suspense Bendis worked so hard to build up.

The Hood story worked, too, for a while, but may have suffered from being strung out too long.

I am reminded, however, that Bendis is only three issues in.  I am patient and will give him at least a year.  He has earned at least that from me for all the greatness that was his first New Avengers run.
