Let's get to the nitty gritty here. The hoopla that everyone is talking about with this issue is the big reveal. That Lincoln March, the man who was trying to run for mayor and has now been revealed as a man tied to the 'Court of Owls', may be Bruce's long lost brother. It's a big shock, if not shown that Bruce did indeed have a brother in a story a long time ago, and everyone is freaking out about this. Scott Snyder has always written stories with a lot of sick and twisted moments and he's done his job here. But here's the thing: I don't buy it for a second. This "Lincoln March" man is such an unreliable person I can't believe anything he says. Maybe he is Bruce's brother but things just don't add up. Why would he wait this long to attack Bruce? If he has had ties to the 'Court of Owls' why didn't he just take him out during that time? But the back up story by James Tynion might hold credibility to what March is saying. Cause there is a car crash involving a pregnant Martha Wayne....But then again the significance of it happening on the corner of "Lincoln" and "March" might be important. (Whether it's why the man calls himself that in the present or a clever cover up.) Either way I just can't find myself to believe the story just yet. We got an issue to go before this epic story line ends (for now) so we'll see how Snyder wraps this all up next month. To the issue at hand, this was yet another 5-star issue by Mr. Snyder and Capullo. Snyder ties up all the loose ends and of course it doesn't satisfy Bruce at all. At first I was about to downgrade this issue because everything ended a bit too neatly. But of course Snyder made sure Bruce thought so too and it lead us to the end of the issue for the big reveal. I would say this is the best issue, writing wise, by Snyder since he worked on this title. But he makes the issue very tense and ties up all loose ends for this (unknown) mystery for next month. Greg Capullo should just get his Eisner now whenever he gets nominated....Cause the mood is perfectly set thanks to his pencils. When he's in the creepy attic, it's creepy thanks to the lighting. When he's in the orphanage? He draws the place in a way to see the cobwebs and destroyed walls to make it look uneasy. Also, a nice nod to 'Dark Knight Strikes Back' with the disturbing looking children while at the orphanage. I hope Capullo never leaves this series because I can't think of a better duo for Batman right now then these two. So while I call a bit of B.S. to the big reveal I can't say this issue is B.S. at all. This is a gorgeous looking issue (as always) and Snyder writes himself one hell of an issue here. Also, don't forget the back up by Tynion or Albuquerque because it's integral to the big reveal in this issue. That and....it's great to look at and Tynion keeps showing his chops as a writer. So it's a great, 5-star issue as always. Even though it didn't get a POTW nod for me this week, it's a must read for any Batman fan.
