After this second issue, there is no doubt in my mind that Morrison is the perfect writer to make Superman fun and interesting again. His creativity is perfect for this character, and this issue (specifically the events that lead to Superman’s escape) displays that incredibly well. I have the sneaking suspicion that Morrison will continue to grow and evolve Supe’s powers in new and innovative ways and I’m incredibly excited for it.

Spoilerific? P.S.

In Morrison’s sketch of the ship from the last page, there is a Kryptonian crest on it.

Could this mean ?
-Zod & co
-New Kryptonians
-nothing (or Braniac)
-Time traveling Legionaires?
-something else entirely

Only time will tell.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 3 - Good

  1. edit

It’s also amazing that Morrison is already working, at break neck speed, to build other established characters into this mythos.

  2. My immediate reaction to the last page was “Brainiac” but I have no basis for that speculation.

  3. I was like JNewcomb – I just assumed it was Brainiac at the end. Perhaps Morrison’s S-shield on the sketch hints that he’s going for the Brainiac origin from “Superman: The Animated Series” (?), where Brainiac was a Kryptonian A.I. created to run the planet’s day-to-day systems until it went nuts and actually killed Krypton. Hrm.
