We’ll find out in January.

Comments

  1. ColdWarKid ColdWarKid says:

    Winter Soldier?

  2. LucasEwalt says:

    Captain Russia? (or Comrade Russia?)

  3. jonnjonz jonnjonz says:

What If There Wasn’t Only One….

    …Hundred And Forty-Three Deadpool Books?

  4. bobgorila bobgorila says:

Is it just me, or is Captain America Inc the obvious suggestion? Cap and Bats have been following each other pretty closely the last few years.

  5. Maybe there were more Captain Americas in the interim time between Cap getting frozen and Cap joining the Avengers. Since the timeline is tricky, then maybe it was more than a decade there.

Or it’s another Winter Soldier, which would be a neat idea.

  6. is this a new character then? someone else we know that seemingly died in the 40s? Peggy Carter? who else would Cap know that this could fit?

  7. stevetwo stevetwo says:

Please, please no. One Winter Soldier was enough. If by chance it’s true, I merely say this: Sin. The second Ventriloquist. Carnage. Carnage’s baby. Rhodey as Iron Man. Ad nauseam. Second verse is, most often, worse than the first.

  8. ghostmann ghostmann says:

“What if there wasn’t only one…….. but 52?”

  9. DeadpoolFan1 DeadpoolFan1 says:

    Winter Soldier seems most likely.

Outside bet: Secret Warriors rotated around the idea of One Man winning a war, what if this is some new Nick Fury book?

  10. nightwalker nightwalker says:

does marvel publish comics anymore or just oblique, poorly photo-shopped, generic teasers that are often more compelling than the actual material it preceeds? Just wondering.

  11. Radmobile Radmobile says:

…not only one, but several $5.99 issues coming up?

  12. kennyg kennyg says:

Apparently there was once a character called Red Guardian who was the Soviet equivalent of Captain America. Maybe they’re dusting that off?

  13. I’m calling clone. The Cap and Bucky book is seemingly narrated by Bucky while promising in future solicits that his team-ups will be “for the first time!” Which makes me believe that Cap and Bucky isn’t a flashback book, but a Bucky clone being educated on his life.

  14. MisterShaw MisterShaw says:

    It’s a Highlander comic, isn’t it.

    Sigh.

  15. Joshua Joshua says:

It seems like Marvel (in the wake of DC’s 52) is simply throwing every idea against the wall to see what sticks in the hope of obtaining some attention that DC is owning now.

  16. Glassford says:

Cap is the only one with real, proper, not-making-you-crazy super soldier serum. The was a big focus from the movie as well (I was promised an army and all I got was you… or something like that). So we might see spider island for Captain America, just like Fear Itself was spider island for Thor…

  17. MutantSentry MutantSentry says:

    Winter Soldier Clone Saga…

  18. nastysnow says:

Bucky please no need for him to die

  19. Not Super Soldier, as we’ve had a whole bunch of those. Cap wasn’t even the first one!

  20. Noto Noto says:

    Red Captain America?

  21. Andrew Andrew says:

    “I hope it’s not Nazis!”

  22. Josh Flanagan Josh Flanagan (@jaflanagan) says:

If something works once, do it until everyone hates it.

  23. JSAkid JSAkid says:

Its all been said already but Bucky wasn’t the only Winter Soldier right? I could dig this concept if handled right with a thrilling level of intrigue, espionage, action, deception and mystery.

  24. icn1983 icn1983 says:

There wasn’t. There was Isaiah Bradley, Steve Rogers, William Burnside, and Bucky Barnes. Unless they’re not talking about Captain America.

  25. NathanNicdao NathanNicdao says:

“What if there wasn’t only one..
..oh well, just asking, you know, what if..”

  26. Is this a clumsy way of saying

And what if there were two
    Side by side in orbit
    Around the fairest sun?
    That bright, tight forever drum
    Could not describe
    Nightswimming

  27. KenOchalek KenOchalek says:

Maybe it’s just a new What If? anthology/ongoing/line of books? This could be the first of several what if teasers.

  28. glwarm76 glwarm76 says:

I want Bucky back but I’m concerned about what this teaser could mean. Another Winter Solider other than Bucky? A Bucky clone? It’ll be interesting to see how things play out.

  29. KenOchalek KenOchalek says:

One of Cable’s many outfits had a star on it (not sure if it was red), and we know he’s gonna be prominent in the X-Sanction thing in 2012, he’s had clones of himself out there (Stryfe)…maybe a bunch of different Cable’s from the future are running around causing problems?

Thin, I know, but that’s why speculating is fun!

  30. jackalope21 jackalope21 says:

The return of Bravestarr……..why not? everything else from the 80s is being brought back

  31. cosmo cosmo says:

I’m going with another Winter Soldier here, which if Brubaker’s writing, i’ll give the benefit of the doubt, but, otherwise . . . sigh.

  32. convoy83 convoy83 says:

to me the more pertinent question is when will robert kirkman start doing parodies of these ads

  33. BCDX97 BCDX97 says:

What if there wasn’t only one – extra dollar that Marvel charged on their Avengers books, X-Books, Spider books, Ultimate books, etc, that drove me away from reading Marvel altogether?

  34. Maybe their relaunch a What If? ongoing?

Please let them be relaunching a What If? ongoing.

    • MisterShaw MisterShaw says:

What If…the What If… Series Had Never Been Cancelled?

The planet would’ve been struck by an asteroid or something, because those never ended well.

  35. ato220 ato220 says:

    J. Edgar would not approve

  36. koryrosh koryrosh says:

What if there wasn’t only one?
What if there was also point one?

    • glwarm76 glwarm76 says:

What if Marvel only published .1 issues?
What if there wasn’t only a $1 difference between most DC and Marvel titles, but a $2 difference?
What if there wasn’t only one writer writing both Avengers and New Avengers, but two different writers?
What if there wasn’t only one Matt Fraction, but two Matt Fractions, a bad writer and a good writer?

  37. Maybe they mean “What if there wasn’t only one super-soldier” ?

Though didn’t Mockingbird become a super soldier in a recent Bendis story? It really isn’t that rare to be some type of super-soldier in the MU.

  38. Marvel teaming up with macy’s to create a new hero?

  39. unclerocco unclerocco says:

    LOL the Macy’s hero.

I was wondering why Marvel created this create new character in Winter Soldier/Bucky only to waste him in Fear Itself. I knew he wouldn’t be Cap forever (thank god, that gun and stupid black outfit was awful), but I couldn’t believe they dispatched him like he was, I don’t know… The Sentry.

Now I see that he’s coming back. If it’s a Buck Barnes clone, I wonder if he’ll have both arms! Everybody seems to be coming back with two arms these days! (See “Red Hood and the Outlaws”)

  40. BronxRonin BronxRonin says:

    zzzz…lol!

  41. positronic says:

Let’s see… Red Star is a DC character, so then it must be the Red Guardian (originally the ex-husband of the Black Widow, and Soviet Russia’s version of Captain America). There’s more than one?

  42. I hope that this is a bucky rebirth thing. Where he goes after the other russian weapon brainwashees. I know its childish, but i just want bucky back!!
