Bonus Question: What has been your favorite movie of the summer so far?

Comments

  1. Starwars
    Astro City
    Batman
    East of West
    Peter Panzerfuast
    Saga
    Infinity
    Thor God of Thunder
    Uncanny X-Men
    Wolverine
    Wolverine and the X-Men

BQ: This came out nationwide in the beginning of the summer so it might not count but The Place Beyond the Pines is the best movie I have seen since No Country for Old Men

    • Pines was excellent. I had blockbusters in mind when I answered, but that was definitely my favorite drama of the year.

    • Came out in April nationwide which is the dame as the Avengers in 2012 so I’m going with it. If not I guess it would be This is the End by default almost.

  2. Great Odin’s raven! What a week!

    BATMAN #23
    EAST OF WEST #5
    INFINITY #1
    JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #7
    SAGA #13
    THE WALKING DEAD #113
    THOR: GOD OF THUNDER #11
    WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #34

BQ: The Wolverine. No one is more surprised than I am by that answer.

  3. Batgirl #23
    Batman #23
    Constantine #6
    Justice League of America #7
    Katana #7
    Nightwing #23
    Suicide Squad #23
    The Walking Dead #113

    BQ: Star Trek Into Darkness

  4. Small but good solid week with the mighty return of Saga, the start of Infinity & regular pleasures of East of West & Astro City!

BQ- I know most people really didn’t like it but fuck’em so my enjoinment of the summer so far is Only God Forgives!

    • Only God Forgives was rough and I was big fan of Drive and Vahalla? What did you like about it?

    • Well for starts I’m a big Winding Refn fan, I love his explosions of violence, grittiness & unpleasant characters. But with this film in particular the use of colour really worked for me it was very reminiscent of Wong Kar-Wai’s Fallen Angels which is another fave of mine. The dialogue & main story was pretty straight-forward, but did add to the un-pleasantness of the surroundings & the environment, which is quite similar to Jodorowsky’s vivid use of colour & extreme moments of violence.

I feel with this picture in particular that the pressure was on with Drive being so good, but if I like a certain filmmaker & actor the combination will always win me over, basically visually good, dark & seedy just how I like ’em!

    • Avatar photo PymSlap (@alaska_nebraska) says:

Do you recommend Lords of Salem? I really liked the cinematography on Rob Zombie’s Halloween II, and I heard he collaborated with the same dp this time.

    • Ok I hear that. Can you defend the lack of plot and/or the dinner date with Goslings mom scene and the accompanying follow where he screams for the prostitute to take off the dress because I had to put my foot down there.

    • Hey I love bit of screaming & anything extreme that is sort of out of character always adds depth, guess that’s why I love films like the Piano Teacher. I’m not gonna defend the film or my taste in cinema but I liked it all as a package!

@PymSlap Sorry buddy I’ve never seen any of Rob Zombie’s films not quite a horror fan, but visually they look pretty good so I say check ’em out!

  5. East of West #5, Lost Vegas #4, Red Sonja #2, Saga #13 & Worlds’ Finest #15.

    BQ: Man of Steel.

  6. Batman #23
    East of West #5
    Walking Dead #113

BQ: Man of Steel for sure; mostly because I can’t help what a huge mark I am for Superman.

  7. Hickman books and Saga! Yay! Oddly enough I’m super excited for Infinity. Feels weird to actually be excited for a summer event book, but if any one can pull it off it’s Hickman. Gotta love that crazy bastard.

BQ: Pacific Rim just for how stupid and fun it is. Everything else I’ve seen this summer has just been kind of blah, at least when it comes to Hollywood blockbusters.

  8. Pretty big week with Saga, Thor and Trillium (late shipment).

BQ: I’m really pulling for The World’s End to be great, but we will see.

    • I’ve seen The World’s End and love it, not the funniest film in the Cornetto trilogy (which I think is Hot Fuzz) but the most impressive in my opinion.
Edgar Wright seems far more confident in his style which is more prominent, it’s almost as stylized as Scott Pilgrim. The fight scene are some of the best I’ve seen all year. The characters are deep and well rounded, Simon Pegg breaks his type casting to play an inherently unlikeable character. But there’s a lot of heart in there.

  9. Avatar photo PymSlap (@alaska_nebraska) says:

    I’m glad that Saga’s back.

BQ: THE HEAT is very funny.

  10. Big comics of the week. Saga (YAY), Avengers Arena, East of West, Astro City.

BQ: Iron Man 3, not that the others were bad but damn that movie was good.

  11. Getting:
    Saga
    Batman
    Justice League of America
    Suicide Squad
    Threshold (what a dud)

    Getting off the racks:
    Infinity
    (and maybe) Red Sonja

BQ: Pacific Rim for Sure. loved it.

  12. Avatar photo 36crazymet (@themikeylamb) says:

    FANTASTIC FOUR #11
    INFINITY #1
    PETER PANZERFAUST #13

    BQ: Star Trek Into Darkness!

  13. Chrome and Firefox whenever i go to make my pull it logs me back out once i get to the pulllist.

  14. ASTRO CITY #3
    BATMAN #23
    DEADPOOL #14
    EAST OF WEST #5
    FANTASTIC FOUR #11
    INFINITY #1
    PETER PANZERFAUST #13
    SAGA #13
    SIX-GUN GORILLA #3
    SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN TEAM-UP #2
    THE WALKING DEAD #113
    THOR: GOD OF THUNDER #11
    UNCANNY X-FORCE #10
    UNCANNY X-MEN #10
    WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #34

Decent size week-looking forward to the return of Saga the most.

BQ: The Conjuring. This was the only movie I’ve seen this summer as well.

  15. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

BQ: Pacific Rim. Nothing else has come close.

  16. BATMAN #23
    ASTRO CITY #3
    THOR: GOD OF THUNDER #11
    THE WALKING DEAD #113
    SAGA #13
    EAST OF WEST #5
    JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #7

BQ: Star Trek Into Darkness. It was everything I hoped it would be, it was fun, cool, exciting and Khan. Pacific Rim was fun, Iron Man 3 I remember enjoying in the theater but looking back it feels forgettable, Man of Steel I liked enough to be my second fave of the summer. Man of Steel was the line where Paul Montogmery and I agree to disagree. That review though was a hoot to read.

  17. BQ: I still need to see Star Trek Into Darkness, Man of Steel and Pacific Rim.

I saw Iron Man 3 and it was fun, but it wasn’t really great, and it was pretty forgettable.

I have a big TV set, so I wait until the DVD comes out to watch a lot of movies.

    • Oh, I guess I’ll eventually watch The Lone Ranger and Wolverine, as well.

I almost went to see Pacific Rim today, because I love that supa roboto stuff.

  18. Peter Panzefaust and Saga in the same week?! It’s like Christmas

BQ: Pacific Rim. The trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug comes in second and yes I know the actual film is not out yet.

  19. BATMAN #23
    JLA #7
    WALKING DEAD #113
    AVENGERS ARENA #13

BQ: The Great Gatsby. It’s the only summer film which wound up being better than I thought it would be. All of the others disappointed me. So yeah – the guy who made Moulin Rouge, one of the worst films I have EVER seen – is the only guy who truly earned my $17 this season. Lol

  20. Batman
    Deadpool
    East of West
    Infinity
    Nightwing
    Saga
    Wolverine

BQ: Has anyone seen SIDE EFFECTS? It came out in February; directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Jude Law, Rooney Mara, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Channing Tatem. Great thriller involving a depressed woman who winds up destroying a psychiatrist’s life. Definitely recommend as it is Soderbergh’s final THEATRICAL film.

A very close second is UPSTREAM COLOR with was made by Shane Carruth. A great second film by him and it’s a sci-fi/romance involving bacteria. I don’t see either of these movies on this page so far so I hope I am making people want to see them in the future.

    • Avatar photo PymSlap (@alaska_nebraska) says:

I can’t wait to see what Amy Seimetz does next in The Sacrament!

    • @PymSlap: I haven’t heard of that movie until now. It’s made by the guy who works on the V/H/S films and THE ABCs OF DEATH….I gotta watch those eventually.

    • Avatar photo PymSlap (@alaska_nebraska) says:

@TheNextChampion Ti West. He’s an actor in Drinking Buddies and You’re Next. I believe Amy Seimetz is in You’re Next, too.

Deadpool #14 – The book has a lot of different artists on it, my preference is Mike Hawthorne, but I wouldn’t change a thing about this series. Great book, complete with the iFanboy Pick-of-the-Week Seal of Approval.

    • Side Effects was amazing. So sad the Sodebergh is leaving the film industry.

  21. BATMAN #23
    EAST OF WEST #5
    INFINITY #1
    SAGA #13
    THE WALKING DEAD #113
    WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #34
    UNCANNY X-MEN #10
    PETER PANZERFAUST #13

BQ: Can today’s leaked footage from GOTG be my answer? No? ok, Man of Steel for me then!

  22. Hey iFanboy – I think you forgot Batman: Li’l Gotham 5!

    Batman: Li’l Gotham 5
    Saga 13
    Suicide Squad 23
    Deadpool 14

  23. Moderate sized week for me. Getting Saga, Archer & Armstrong, Batman, Demon Knights (sniff), Astro City and last week’s Phantom Stranger.

BQ: Probably either Before Midnight or Computer Chess (though Something in the Air was pretty great too). Best popcorn blockbuster would’ve been Star Trek . . .

  24. BQ: I’m stuck between The Heat and Monsters University.

  25. Just as an aside:

There is a trade from Marvel coming out this week called DR. STRANGE AND DR. DOOM. Which has Roger Stern as writer and Mike Mignola as artist. So yeah…..that should be a ‘Book of the Month’ contender. How have I not heard of this until tonight?

  26. BQ: “This is the End” Nothing else has come close.

  27. BQ: Favorite by far Pacific Rim. Least favorite by far Iron Man 3. Most anticipated by far Much Ado About Nothing.

  28. SAGA!!! Some other stuff, too, but SAGA!!!

BQ: Much Ado About Nothing. Seriously loved that.

  29. Batman #23
    Green Lantern Corps #23
    Six-Gun Gorilla #3
    East Of West #5
Breath Of Bones: A Tale Of The Golem #3

Maybe JLA #7 but I’m bored of the whole New 52 JL. I feel the need to collect the rest of the Trinity War, but I’m sure the last issue will just be a set up the the next story arc rather than have a decent pay off!

Also waiting for Saga in TP.

  30. Definitely picking up Saga, Thor, and Uncanny X-Men. Might take a flyer on Infinity and Wolverine and the X-Men.

BQ: Pacific Rim, without a shadow of a doubt.

  31. Only Batgirl this week- jumping on for something new to read- the only other Bat-Book I read is Batwoman….

BQ: I’d have to say my favorite film I’ve seen this summer is ‘Miami Connection’ on Netflix. Big Dumb Fun. Love the song ‘Friends”.

  32. Great week all in all. Avengers Arena, Astro City, and Smallville. Good to have Saga back too.

    ASTRO CITY #3
    AVENGERS ARENA #13
    BATMAN #23
    DOCTOR WHO #12
    JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #7
    PETER PANZERFAUST #13
    RED SONJA #2
    SAGA #13
    SMALLVILLE #16
    THE X-FILES #3

BQ: I haven’t seen any of the new theatrical releases. I had fun with Gangster Squad and Lawless on DVD!

  33. this week my pull list is infinity, scarlet spider, supeior spider man team up,justice league of america and gi joe special mission. getting of the self uncanny x-men and wolverine and the x-men and last weeks all new x-men.think this is my last issue of scarlet spider a great book but i’m not subscribed to it and my store doesn’t order alot of copies so i been tracking them dowm amazon and shipping is high still need issue 19.I know someone is thinking why don’t i just subscribed to it the reason is i only had room for one spider man book on my list and decide on supeior team up so i could keep yost but read about the main spider man.

  34. Hope I didn’t miss any, this list is getting too big:
    ASTRO CITY #3
    BATGIRL #23
    BATMAN #23
    DEADPOOL #14
    EAST OF WEST #5
    GREEN LANTERN CORPS #23
    JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #7
    NIGHTWING #23
    SAGA #13
    SUICIDE SQUAD #23
    THOR: GOD OF THUNDER #11

BQ: Probably Star Trek. Man of Steel is up there, though. I really enjoyed Pacific Rim and The Conjuring too.

  35. BAD BREAK HC
    BATMAN #23
MARCH, BOOK 01 GN (Why is there only 7 pulls for this???)
    PETER PANZERFAUST #13
    SAGA #13

BQ: I’m a little behind on the movie front.

  36. This is my BIGGEST week in awhile! Looking forward to Batman and Saga the most!

BQ: Pacific Rim… I think that just about describes my opinion on EVERY other movie…

  37. Harbinger
    Scarlet Spider
    East of West
    Saga!!!!
    Batman
    GL Corps.
    Thor
    and Uncanny X-Men

Great week of comics for me. Saga’s finally back, the finale of Thor and some more Capullo Batman! Fuuuuck yeah, love this shit!

  38. Saga
    Thor
    Breath of Bones
    And eventually March

BQ: Probably Iron Man 3 by default. Everything else I’ve seen has been kids movies! Epic was probably the best of those, but Iron Man 3 was better than that.

  39. Saga
    Infinity #1
    X
    Worlds Finest
Breath of Bones: A Tale of Golem

BQ: Oblivion was amazing in the IMAX, a total eargasm, sound fx,beautiful vistas, panoramic scenic landscapes & cinemaphotography made the tech driven Sci-Fi 2001 Kubrick-esque solitude overtones film a true IMAX experience and for that I loved it. Can’t speak for it seen any other way unless you have a killer 7.1 surround system and at least a 60″ screen cause its one of them movies where it’s not just a different feel but IMAX made it a whole other film.
I also bought and watched & loved D’jhango Unchained on Blu-Ray if that counts as a “this summer release” ? It was released on BluRay this summer and I had no prior viewings of it. Loved everything about this film and the bonus features & soundtrack just made it even better.
I’d like to be saying Man of Steel without any other mention but although I am on the side of people who liked it, it had some flaws that kept it from the top of the list.
Haven’t seen The Wolverine, and really look forward to Thor: The Dark World cause I got a feeling Asgardian battles with Walt Simonsons creations might just lay the hammer down, pun intended.
