If This New Trailer for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Doesn’t Leave You Tingling, Nothing Will

Big words, I know.

You’re in Marvel’s The Avengers mode, I know.

And any additional blood is flowing to and engorging the Batman center of your brain (the cere-belfry) what with the Dark Knight Rises trailer and all. I know.

But willikers if this new trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man isn’t bigger and bolder than all those that came before. There’s tons of new footage here in addition to the set pieces we’ve already seen. It may actually be too much, but sandwiched as it is between two major superhero releases, ASM’s in need of some fanfare. Personally, I’m very excited about this one, but have felt a discernible lack of company on the ol’ bandwagon. This trailer only bolsters my interest, and I hope you’ll dig on it too.

So, if you’re okay with seeing a lot more of the Lizard, it’s definitely worth checking out. There’s a real sense of scope in this one. Lots of establishing shots like the composition below. Images that pull away from Spidey himself to show the big, broad sky he plays in. It could be the ravages of time on memory, but I think that’s maybe something the previous Spider-Man trilogy lacked. It adds to the tension, and suggests real spectacle for Pete’s web-slinging sequences.

Maybe more importantly, they tossed in a little more of the comedy. Judging by some past reaction, I think that’s wise.

You’re probably looking for that trailer. Head on over to Apple and select “Trailer 2.” Watch it at the highest resolution available for your setup because it’s something else.

The Amazing Spider-Man swings into theaters July 3rd.

  1. This keeps looking better and better. WOW… Marvel movies have taken it to the next level.

  2. I’m trying not to get too excited for this after what happened with Spider-man 3, but this actually looks pretty darn good. The quip about the small knife is fantastic.

  3. I’ve gotta say, I’m really looking forward to this. Which means my position has done a complete 180.

  4. Avengers, Dark Knight Rises, Amazing Spiderman. This is easily the greatest comic book movie summer ever!!!

  5. His costume really bothers me

  6. That’s some awesome stuff 🙂

  7. Not sure how I didn’t realize until now that Denis Leary is playing Captain Stacy. Sweet.

  8. I’m getting more and more interested in this. Wish they would stop giving away the one liners though. Save something for the movie.

  9. This movie is so much “Spider-Man Begins”. Starting over with a new cast and a not so obvious director. Picking a villain often talked about for a 4th movie but ends up in the reboot. Not as much “Buzz” around it going into the summer. The similarities are many.

    • Great point. Let’s hope it is a successful!

    • Definitely is a Begins type film! I seriously hope that the impact that this film will have for Spidey will be one similar to Batman. The fact that I am finally seeing the Lizard on screen is just such an awesome feeling : )

  10. holy s**t

  11. This is the first time I have actually been excited for a Spider-Man movie since the first one.

  12. Cool. Cool, cool.

  13. Honestly, I’m looking forward to this way more than I am the Avengers.

  14. Oh my… Marc Webb. You have my money… a lot of it.

  15. This is the movie im looking, forward to.

  16. I was lukewarm at best until this trailer. Now I’m hyped!

  17. Sorry, not exciting at all. Avengers is way more fun than this looks and Dark Knight just outclasses it by an order of magnitude.

  18. Well if you can’t have a Superman movie this year this is the next best thing from Marvel.

    Bring on Spider-Man.

  19. I want to be on board for this, but the story sounds terrible to me. I’ve been reading Spider-Man for 25 years, and I couldn’t care less about his parents if I tried. I also think a big reason 3 sucked was because they worked too hard to tie Sandman’s story to Peter’s… now it looks like this crew has done the same to the Lizard. The Avengers was the best comic movie I’ve ever seen, and only serves to make this look worse by comparison.

    • I get what you are saying with 3, but in that movie Sandman was tied into it AFTER major things were already revealed in the 1st movie. This is a total re-begining, so if they want to tie in the Lizard, that’s fine, it doesn’t contradict what’s already come before.

  20. Still not hyped for this film, I’ll probably go see it though. It just doesn’t grip me and make me interested in it. A lot of the action scenes have been done in the other Spiderman films, there is only so many times you can see Spidey twist and twirl and web-sling between buildings before you’ve seen it all. I think Garfield fits the Peter Parker role really well. And I’m glad to see the Lizard. Seems like they are setting the story up for a long run.

  21. The trailer looks amazing, getting a massive Todd Mcfarlane vibe with the posses while he’s swinging.

  22. This looks AWESOME!!

  23. i saw the trailer in 3-d, and it was quite impressive. i think i’m gonna watch this movie in 3-d when it comes out.

  24. Sit through another 45 minutes about Spidey’s origin? No thanks.

  25. It’s interesting because when the first Spider-Man movie came out there was no Marvel Studios so my guess is Marvel creative had a lot more input then.

Here we are 11 years later and I’m wondering if Marvel Studios had control of the Spider-Man movie franchise, would they have told this story?

  26. Looks cool, but still feel pretty luke warm about it. I’m still finding difficulty in the necessity for another origin story. Also, his mask looks like its off a ton. I mean, I know why it is, but is everyone going to know Spider-Man is Peter Parker in this one?

Having now seen it on a big screen….wow! Can’t wait!

  28. I love how people are saying they don’t want to sit through another origin story. So they all must have hated Batman Begins. Nothing wrong with a reboot if its done right. Like Paul said. After watching this on the big screen and in 3D…. Wow… I Can’t Wait For This. Go Spidy Go!

  29. I liked the trailer … but the stuff with his parents … It’s like Fox can’t not screw it up.

  30. Looks good. Getting more excited
