September 29, 2011 11:07 am Re. Emerald Warriors, "no one asked for this mess." - I disagree, I did. And I think a lot of the many many people enjoying GL prior to the relaunch will like it as well. I don't get this strange aversion that people have to the coloured corps. It's six different coloured police forces representing different emotions, it's not like it's nuclear physics. I, Vampire and Justice League Dark were top stuff as well - really rounded out the DC horror line as the best.
July 21, 2011 4:43 am Didn't like the 'shaky cam' version and this does nothing to change my mind.

The tone is wrong for a Spider-Man film, Garfield is completely wrong for Peter and the first person web slinging is an irritating gimick.

It's also still way to early to be rebooting. It's weird watching a different origin story only a few years after the last one.

July 19, 2011 10:07 am Doesn't look good. Seems to have a bit of an odd tone for a Spidey film if the  trailer is anything to go by, POV webslinging seems like yet another 3d gimick and Garfield doesn't sit at all well as Peter.

Not convinced.

...also I've heard it's a better bet in 2D. Another one of those films where the 3D doesn't add much and dulls the colours flattening the spectacle a bit.
June 17, 2011 8:23 am I remain cautiously optimistic that this is just one of those films that critics don't get. It's got a dodgy rating on rotten tomatoes until you look at the audience score which is 81% positive (4.1 out of 5) off of 60,000 ish reviews.

Maybe just a case of overly pretentious critics not being able to engage their fun side.

June 16, 2011 9:17 am Was reading Uncanny when Fraction was on it, jumped off when Gillen took over. Was reading Carey's Legacy but will jump off when it's replaced with Aaron's Wolverine & The X-Men.

Means I've got a couple of extra spots to play with for the DC Reboot! I can try a couple of the books I was on the fence about...

June 7, 2011 12:18 pm Shame about Bryan Q Miller - Batgirl was one of the best books on the stands at the moment...
June 7, 2011 11:59 am @wallythegreenmonster - I think you hit the nail on the head. DC could have pinched Bendis and Maleev from Marvel, stuck them on Batman and it still wouldn't permeate the mass market (it would also be dull as hell watching the bat family sit round a table chatting for 70% of each issue).

I mean, Bendis and Maleev are big names in the industry but the industry has a limited ceiling in terms of the number of books they can shift apparently.

The only way comics are going to break through the ceiling and start permeating the mass market again is by employing big names from the entertainment industry that bring fans with them. Ridiculous example but... imagine a J.K. Rowling Teen Titans book or something similar. Most comic fans would probably be against the idea but I bet it would outsell any comic book in recent memory...

June 7, 2011 11:48 am Agree about the big name creators, it would have been nice to see a couple of really WOW type creative teams.

I think you're reaching a bit with the rest of the article, I mean just because you like Aaron, Wood, Roberson or Allred doesn't mean everyone does.

Frankly I think Aaron is mighty overated, I like some of Wood's stuff (not all of it), Roberson did a steady job taking over JMS's Superman (and iZombie has been petering out so much that I dropped it as of last issue) and Allred, although great, is a peculiar style that wouldn't really fit many characters (although Doom Patrol is a good shout - albeit one that ain't ever going to sell a lot).

As I say, I think those creators that you like and list might make a difference to you but wouldn't make much of a difference to sales. Frankly I'd much prefer a book by the so called DC 'rank and file' than I would any of those creators you listed. Personal taste and all that really...

May 12, 2011 9:38 am @Kory - Totally agree about the brand loyalty thing, never really understood why but Marvel do seem to have an exceptionally loyal following that will happily put up with price hikes and quality drops to stay with certain characters. DC do have this as well with certain readers but don't seem to have it to the same extent as Marvel.

Never understood the complaints about DC being impenetrable or cheesy, there's a wealth of history there (which I very much enjoyed researching when I started with DC) and they are more iconic that Marvel which can hurt the human factor in some instances but I don't think impenetrable or cheesy is fair.
