November 26, 2012 5:10 pm i obviously haven't read arena, but i don't think academy would be required reading....it's worth giving a read if you have some disposable income though, it was one of my favorite avengers titles during the 'heroic age', you will probably care about the characters more going in if you do, because it seems like the majority of that cast, if not all of them, are going to be in the arena
September 18, 2012 5:15 pm Goliath hasn't come back, I don't know where you got that....Scott Lang as ant man came back, but he then had to watch his daughter be killed, as far as your logic that clones are resurrections, then I suppose Hal Jordan should be considered a villain...he destroyed a whole city, and although he was possessed, it was still his visage, so by your logic, he still did it....clones I understand if they are the exact same person, but marvel hasn't done that since the clone saga, and alternate reality versions of characters that come back almost always have completely different character traits & views, hence, different character.....as far as dc handing death better, that's just fanboy talk there, mistakes with deaths have been made on both sides of the fence, ultimately it's the stories that matter, and most of the characters that have died recently on marvels end have been to save their friends, nightcrawler, wasp, professor x, Goliath, all of these people made a "real sacrifice" so I don't understand your logic there either..as far as people staying dead, batman went through pretty much the exact same thing as captain America with his death 2 years later.....this isn't a marvel vs dc issue, it's a comic book issue that includes all companies, ultimately you can have your opinions, I personally like good stories, I'm not worried about what company did what, or what character came back from where, if a writer tells a good story & understands its characters, it's a worthwhile story
September 17, 2012 12:32 pm This is truly one of the best articles I have read on this topic....I wish more people had your viewpoint, but the divisiveness is a big factor of comic book fans, so I don't lose any sleep over anyone else's viewpoint, but the fact remains that these are stories made to entertain & enlighten, if we need to hold such weight to a death, when we read stories about characters being able to physically go to deaths realm, where do we cross the line? We can believe a man can fly but not that one can come back from the dead in some form? The stories are what ultimately matter, not the feasibility therein. As far as Charles death, it is something that just makes sense, the character obviously has stagnated in recent years & has lost his relevency, through death he gains that relevancy backin spades, and it serves to push the universe forward....if he does come back, he comes back as a rejuvenated & revitalized character who was created to represent an idea that never dies.....thanks for the article, I wish we had more thoughtful stuff like this in our community
September 11, 2012 12:43 pm i hope he grabs at least one more....since they've said there will be 2 x-force books, and brevoort said that breakout solo stars might get their own book, and from some parts in remenders interview on cbr where he said that his is only act 2 of kid apocalypse's story, i think either he or fantomex might get a solo book....doesn't look like remender's doing it either way, but he's used to doin 3 ongoings at marvel so hopefully he can pull off one more for now....still got about 3 months worth of solicits to see
September 11, 2012 12:37 pm oh yeah, plus he's carrying over a lot of his themes from that book, like apocalypse, kang is going to play into that story too, there's a great article on comicbookresources.com right now where he goes through a lot of what's gonna happen if you haven't seen that yet
September 11, 2012 12:31 pm 35 issues is still a pretty good size run...i liken it to that incredible part of your favorite song....some pop artists stretch it out forever & wear it out, but the best artists don't dwell on anything, for fear of stagnating....do you want an album full of the same break down? Eventually you've worn it out & lose all the magic of that first time, so i'm glad remender's moving on, he's on a hot streak right now, and anything else he jumps on will be all the better for it
September 10, 2012 5:36 pm totally agreed, great article by the way, but i'm with you, it will have to be tied into spider-man in some way, even if the timelines don't quite match up, because if you just have an alien symbiote suit that's never bonded to spider-man that bonds to a war vet, how would you explain the huge white spider on his chest? Or his ability to shoot webs, even if they don't go that route, spider-man is ingrained in venom's dna, and if that's not acknowledged, then you just have a black alien suited guy wearing a spider for no real reason....most everything else in your article works spot on, but there has to be more of a tie to webb's spider-man movies to explain some of these things, which makes me think if we do see a venom movie it would be introduced there first....who knows venom might be this trilogy's joker, leaving the third film open to go whole hog with the green goblin
September 6, 2012 1:48 pm Good call on the savage land, I was thinking the same thing....it could also be the wilds of wakanda, or maybe we will see a return to genosha in some form....with the unification of all branches of the marvel universe that they're touting, plus the obvious inclusion of supernatural elements like morbius in now, at this point truly anything is possible.....I'd love to see a guy like cable or frank castle going all man vs wild on us in the savage land, teamin up with ka zar & zabu.....could make for an interesting story....at the very least we know the art will be beautiful with kev walker at the helm
September 5, 2012 5:31 pm punisher has been stated as being in a team book in now, either this one or a rebooted x-force would be most likely....bleeding cool rumored that way would be taking over a rebooted x-force, but hopefully they got misinformation and this is the only book he is doing now and maybe remender can hang on to x-force or we can get another good writer on that title.....other possibilities for this team could definitely be cable, like you said those are the same crosshairs from x-sanction, and it has been stated that he will also have a presence in now....one addition to the team that i can guarantee if this is indeed thunderbolts would be red hulk...judging from jeff parkers afterword in the last issue of his male red hulk run said that that character would be joining a team that he has worked on in the past, so that is fairly obviously going to either be thunderbolts or dark avengers...we will know for sure probably next week, but smart money is on red hulk, punisher, silver sable possibly, maybe deadpool, and any other mercenary, black ops type characters way sees fit to include.
August 29, 2012 4:13 pm it could very likely be scarlet witch, i personally think it's hope, due to her smaller stature in the picture, and like robotzombie said, she's not referenced in anyway yet...while it could be possible that they are just keeping her out on purpose, it's also most likely that she will take on the phoenix that she had been groomed for all these years....whether or not she is killed or keeps the phoenix & takes to space on a mission to start healing other societies is all up in the air as of now, but my money is on her being the person we are being led to believe is jean on this cover
