July 8, 2013 3:39 pm X-Men at it's best with Claremont and Bryne. Never got any better than this
July 8, 2013 3:38 pm I was going to say the same thing. I would like to read Avengers, New Avengers, X-Men etc. but Hickman,Remender and the other writers can't seem to tell a story without it being one long saga. They are good writers but seem to have one idea and stretch it out as long as they can. It is so tedious to read comics today. I want to support the industry but they are making it really hard these days.
April 11, 2013 10:50 am Society's awkwardness with sex is to blame. It's easier to explain violence to a child than sex. But then again I rather read Tarot Witch of the Black Rose than Walking Dead before bed. I rather have dreams about a half naked heroine then nightmares about brain eating zombies.
April 11, 2013 10:37 am I remember collectors paying outrageous prices for the death issue on ebay thinking they were going to be millionaires or something. Now you can get the issue for cover price or less. I guess all that hype worked for the secondary market at least.
April 11, 2013 10:27 am One of the better series out there. I thought the pre-52 Power Girl series was better but I still enjoy this series. No big storylines or universe threatening villians. I thought the issue with Damian Wayne and Huntress teaming up was great especially considering what happen to Damian now. The best reason to pick up this series is that the story archs don't normally range 4-6 issues like most series these days. Nice compact stories and reminds me of the Power Girl and Huntress pre crisis.
April 1, 2013 8:31 pm It's never going to be as good as the original. Back then we as fans did not look at everything with a critical eye. Today as adults, I think it is safe to say the revamped Rom would be judge rather harshly. Just savor the classics.
April 1, 2013 8:24 pm Ah those ambiguous marvel comics front covers. Can't tell what the story is inside based on the cover. Glad they got rid of that practice.
March 20, 2013 1:40 pm Ordway needs to expand and start doing commissioned work for fans. John Bryne is making a killing on his website doing this and M.C. Wyman is thriving through ebay commissions. Just need to be more flexible and adjust to the ever changing world.
March 1, 2013 6:16 pm You sound a lot like me, a child of the 70's/80's that grew up reading Bryne,Perez,Buscema etc. Those will be the hardest collection to get rid of. I have about 20 long boxes(200-300 comics per box) so I have a huge collection as well. The good news is about a few yers ago I had 30+ long boxes. I started out slowly by getting rid of small runs(min series) and then gradually moved up from there. Then I realized I didn't need Excalibur,New Mutants,X-Factor etc. anymore.Trust me, once you start selling(ebay) or (Half-Price Books), donating any that you can't sell(Goodwill or Salvation army) it gets easier. I actually had to think really hard on that list above on what I've gotten rid of so you truly won't miss the fringe collection. I know I'll never sell certain series(Marvel Team-Up,Two-In-One) but others slowly fall out of favor. Plus the current set of comics are not worth keeping because even the good ones like Brubaker's Captain America or Hickman's Fantastic Four are so convoluted,I can't see myself rereading any of those decade long storylines. So I know my collection won't expand anytime soon. My selling currently has come to a complete halt due to my work schedule but I plan on getting started again this summer. The good part is thanks to Marvel and DC's constant renumbering every few years, it makes it so easy to get rid of everything as a single set now. I can't tell you what to sell but if you sit and sift through your collection, you know what you can live without. And the way digital is expanding, if you do miss a series after selling it, the option will be there to grab them again...if you miss them after a few years that is.
February 4, 2013 8:30 pm Dream on. I thought the same thing with the Legion of Super Heroes waiting for a box set. But once the show was cancelled, the company did not care to make anymore DVD sets. Better get what you can of Young Justice on DVD now because in about 6 months it will be a distance memory to the marketing team.
