Bryan Hitch’s cover for FF #554 doesn’t excite me at all.  It’s a bad movie poster, stiffly posed and uninspired. …

@deadspace - Yes I am.  wallythegreenmonster has obviously had a similar experience.  I respected your view and offered an alternative one.  If we even show contempt for each other, what chance do we have to attract new readers. which is ultimately what Josh is concerned about.  And you have proven that his frustration is warranted.

@deadspace - I see what you are saying, but not all the things that happen to someone are caused by internal perceptions.  Josh's analogy using the Mexican stereotype is valid.  A Mexican person who experiences prejudice because of a stereotype is not doing so because of their own inferiority complex. It's happening because the other person is a bigot.  No amount of positive thinking and self-acceptance will stop that other person being a bigot.

Comic readers (or Star Wars fans or any other fan of a labelled interest) who experience negative reactions from others are not necessarily lacking in personal confidence.  Sometimes other people are just shallow and cruel.  And while I support the idea that you should be proud of who you are, there are times it's best to leave your interests (no matter what they are) outside.  Work is a prime example.  I don't share my hobbies at work, because work is about getting the job done and paying my mortgage.  I don't label myself a nerd, but if someone else does it might effect their perception of me enough to effect our working relationship, and no amount of comic reading pride will pay my bills for me.

There is a place for showing everything about yourself, and not doing it everywhere is not a sign of insecurity.  Other people are not always rational.

@jimski  I don't think he specifically called you an asshole.  I didn't take anything he said personally and I don't think you should either.

#blulew23 Nope.  Not going anywhere for a long time.  CD - still here.  DVD - still here.

@conor  Agree.  The rant was kind of fun.  And didn't damage the message for me at all.  Nowhere near as many people would be listening to a polite thesis on this subject.  The rant gets attention.

I also find it interesting that this is such a binary argument for some.   Music has gone digital but anyone who wants a physical CD can still buy one in the store.

I want digital, but that doesn't stop odino1 buying a trade version.  Or me for that matter, if I loved the single issues enough.

Yep, generalisations are ahoy.  Inserting a few "somes" would make it reasonably accurate.

I see myself as a comic reader rather than a collector.  I never buy two copies of a comic and don't get concerned about which cover I'm buying.  I don't bag and board.  Comics I keep go into a box naked and unprotected.  And even then, the ridiculous storage needs are putting me off reading at all.  I need those rooms for kids and couches.

I WANT DIGITAL.  Subscription digital comics.  New comics delivered to a device on U.S. Wednesday.  As a non-US reader - where imported comics cost $6 to $8 an issue - $1.99 would allow me to buy a lot more comics.  I'd only be paying the exchange rate rather than LCS markup prices that include shipping.

Remove the hyperbole and Scott's article outlines accurately the blocks to digital comics.  An industry too scared to move beyond 1985 and a segment of fans stuck there with them.

If the industry wants a next generation, digital is probably the only way to attract them.  And old comics won't do that.

If I were a comics company, I'd include social networking and some sort of sharing ability to the app to replicate the type of community that occurs around comics.  Except that the execs would see that as an avenue for "pirating".  Cory Doctorow made similar comments, I think.

Growing pains ahead.

Congrats.  I imagine we will see even less of Gordon now.  Amazing times ahead (but some only in retrospect :-))

A great looking family.

Brian Bolland - one of favourite artists of all time since his 2000AD and Judge Dredd days.

The Jae Lee cover is amazing.  Don't always like Jae cos I sometimes find the photoshop-ish backgrounds jaring compared to his excellent figure work, but that really is stunning.

@stuclach - Got your joke and liked it.  But clearly my (lame) nerd math joke attempt missed.  "Two nerdies cancel each other out"...OK, never mind :-)  Not pointing at anyone.  Just generally noting that the math thing comes up every time the shirt is mentioned without fail, and only cos that makes me smile.

I really should buy one of those shirts, BTW.

And again, iFanboy: being named in an editor's note!  Awesome.

And as another aside, I wish editor's notes were back in all books.
