June 27, 2010 1:32 pm Fantastic. Defintely the jewel of my hardcover collection.
June 3, 2010 11:02 pm I don't read previews, pre-order, or even have a pull list anymore. I live in Fort Worth TX and I can think of about seven comic shops in reasonable driving distance. Sometimes they sell out of a book, or don't order it, at the small shop close to my house, but I can definitely find a copy at one of the other shops. I wasn't even aware that people bought comics this way until recently. To me it just seems like a huge hassle and I don't want to commit to buying a product months in advance. If I lived in an area where that had a small shop in which I had to preorder, I probably wouldn't even buy single issues anymore.
June 1, 2010 11:42 pm I'm on the fence. Loved annihilation, loved all of Nova and GotG up to War of Kings, didn't care for War of Kings, haven't read any cosmic marvel since. Since it's a light week I think I will give it a try and maybe pick up ignition.

I am way more into reading peoples' reviews than looking at the star numbers. For me, user reviews are the best thing about this website. They are what really matter, not the 1-5 system. Numerical rating systems are a pretty ridiculous way to communicate the value of a work of art. Remember the scene in The Dead Poets Society where Robin Williams has the kids rip out the page of the textbook that talks about graphing poetry? Yeah, that pretty much says it better than I can. In a review, a person has much more room to express their thoughts or ideas about a work. For instance, Josh wrote an excellent review of Dong Xoai, Vietnam. He probably also gave it five stars. Which one of those things really matters.

BTW, excellent article Jim. I have a shortbox full of what I like to call my "mistakes." I have gotten better though. But sometimes even a great ongoing title will have a bad issue.

I thought the art was excellent. I love JRJR on books like ASM and Kick-Ass and I think that his work adds to the lighthearted feel that this book is going for. No better choice for art, in my opinion. I understand that the art is not for everyone, but I personally like the more sketchy and cartoony feel. I like tight, detailed pencils too, but it's nice to see somebody try and do something different with their art.

Except Cap's hair on the third page.

May 21, 2010 11:30 pm Chris Samnee is the man. Can't wait for Thor: The Mighty Avenger. Hearing him talk about it on 11 o'clock comics this week got me pumped.
May 21, 2010 11:23 pm I fucking love JRJR! Had to get that out...
May 17, 2010 2:56 pm Can't wait for a little bit more Paul Cornell writing Captain Britain.
