October 4, 2011 3:59 pm Reading for pleasure (be it comics, novels, or short stories) is rarer with each passing year. It's practically become a niche activity. 60 or 70 years ago, a bored night watchman would read a detective pulp magazine or advetnure dime novel to kill time. Nowadays, he's surfing the web, playing Angry Birds, or updating his Facebook status. Changing times and all, but something is being lost.
December 15, 2009 4:01 pm I'm looking forward to this...and I don't think there's anything wrong with highlighting female creators in a series like this. Note that all the people involved have worked in the industry and will continue to work in "co-ed" books.
November 6, 2009 12:25 pm I can see audiences splitting in two over this series. Me, I'm enjoying it...Kelly Jones' art is happily grotesque, and the horror/kitsch aesthetic really speaks to me.
November 6, 2009 12:20 pm To each his own...I love Kelly Jones' art, and the technicolor B-movie feel.

Bear in mind that when Moore talks about comics in these situations, it's in response to prompting by an interviewer...and that subtleties like sarcasm and irony don't come across in the written word. Me, I can definitely picture him smirking while uttering those words.

The fact that he's unwilling to be a Smilin' Stan Lee-style booster for mainstream superhero comics seems to rankle people to no end...granted, a lot of his statements seem calculated to raise hackles.

September 9, 2009 7:22 pm "Who says this isn't the Multinational Conglomorate Age of Comics!?"

Well, there's a reason "Disneyfication" has entered the popular lexicon.

That said, I shouldn't get too upset with this. Just gives me the impression that the production of actual comic books is that much less important to Marvel than it was last week or the week before.

August 31, 2009 2:15 pm Will this benefit Marvel creators in any way (the ones that don't own Marvel stock)? If not, then it's just one more mega-corporation aquiring another mega-corporation.
July 21, 2009 6:59 pm The sheer insanity of the Marvex stories (both the original Golden Age material, and the modern tribute by Peter Kupperman) make this a winner. "Remember, we can never be more than friends...for I am not a man, only a machine!!"
July 21, 2009 3:39 pm I suppose if you've been raised on a diet of Twinkies it might be hard to "get" filet mignon.
