  1. All of the 70th anniversary stuff has been excellent, and with Marc Guggenheim behind this one I’m sure it won’t disappoint. Marvel really struck onto something here…could this line be the biggest surprise of the year?

  2. @kwisdumb  I think you may be right. All of these have been 4 or 5 star books to me.

  3. @Roi: Indeed. I think I’ve given a couple a 3, but I don’t think there’s been anything lower than that. So far, in my opinion, the YOUNG ALLIES one has been the best, it was even POW that week.

  4. @kwisdumb  i really enjoyed lady liberty and the captain america and the lady liberty ones the most i think

  5. This should be another solid issue. Yet another character I have no knowledge of.

Has the artist done anything else then what the solict says? I dont recognize the name.

  6. Hrmm… been liking these a bunch, but in all honesty, I never liked Gugenheim.

  7. Ugh

That’s all I should say. But this is the worst issue of these anniversarys so far. Hopefully the one, which is All Winners Comics, will be much better

  8. I guess people were so sick of this issue that they dont want to rate it. It’s that bad. 🙂

  9. Well… okay. It wasn’t terrible. No…. more like it was unnecessary. I don’t understand the point of writing a 70th Anniversary Book and setting it entirely in 2009, for seemingly no apparent reason. No aspect of the story necessitated the "modern edge." What could have been an interesting approach to the book, is ruined by having three of the pages feature dialogue boxes. This was sloppy writing, plain and simple. And oh dear, someone broke out the Raymond Chandler handbook and watched "Double Indemnity" before writing this. Sigh. I should have gone with my gut. 3/5 for me only because I thought the art was excellent on the Phantom Blonde story. Shame they used a great, 40s feeling artist on such a bad story.

I’m not even going to comment on the atrocity that was Marvex.

  10. @Prax: How could you like the art for the Blonde story? It was so bad! It’s like if Tim Sale didnt turn into a great artist.

Did you find it funny how Kupperman made Marvex pretty dumb but his golden age back ups make him like a genius? Whoops…

  11. @TNC I actually think Tim Sale is a little over rated. Sure, he’s great. But sometimes he draws some grosteque people. I thought the art here was good and evocative of the 40s – something the plot was not.

I noticed that. But yeah… I’m actually a little annoyed the guy who did the Marvex story will see some of the $3.99 I shelled out. 😉

  12. @Prax: Why did Guggenheim think doing a modern story would be a good idea? None of the other anniversaries did that.

  13. @TNC Well… Young All-Stars did a split-narrative. But it did it well.

  14. @Prax: Oh right….duh on my part 😛

  15. Yeah, this was definitely the weakest of the 70th Anniversary specials thus far. 2/5 from me. Not terrible, just completely average. However, I must have an affinity and trust in this series, as this is the first misstep out more than a handful of titles.

Does anyone know how many more of these there are?

  16. The sheer insanity of the Marvex stories (both the original Golden Age material, and the modern tribute by Peter Kupperman) make this a winner. "Remember, we can never be more than friends…for I am not a man, only a machine!!"

  17. "Thanks, Marvex! Here’s $20!" Fucking goddamned brilliant.
