August 15, 2013 7:55 am On paper, his approach to both books looked pretty good, but man, did it just not click or what? After reading Remender on Captain America, I sort of wish he had been given the reigns to Fantastic Four for the Marvel Now relaunch.
July 9, 2013 7:41 am Here's the thing - if the editor had a problem with the Sitting panel, why not just tell Jenkins it might look more dynamic or interesting with Batman standing (or looming) over the person he was talking to? To offer up the explanation that it was a common knowledge that Batman never sits was not only wrong, but it sounds like the editor, himself, had been chided by someone else and was passing on his aggravation. I may be giving the editor in question more leeway than due, but the phrasing of the comment (which we are getting third hand...) seems a bit passive aggressive.
July 3, 2013 7:38 am I saw a lot of myself in that wonderfully well written article! I totally agree with your statement about this era influencing the climate that produced Watchmen and Dark Knight. It was the wild and wooly early days of the direct comic shops that opened the doors for creators and fans to try new stuff. I see a lot of similarities between those years and the current digital age.
July 3, 2013 7:17 am Update to my last post: Found this information which sheds some light on the character A trademark for the Owl along with Green Lama, Black Terror, The Scarab, The Arrow, and Pyroman belongs to Super Power Heroes, LLC which is Dynamite Entertainment since 2007/08. http://pdsh.wikia.com/wiki/Owl_%28Dell%29
July 3, 2013 7:14 am More likely based on the Public Domain character as they've had some success with other PD characters. Which Public Domain Owl, I'm not sure, as there were three back in the day. I suspect The Prize Comics Black Owl based on the costume.
July 2, 2013 6:57 am I never pull this comic, but as a guy who remembers the original Wrath from the 1984 Batman Special, I'm curious to see what this one is like.
February 27, 2013 7:53 pm Nice review! The bit about the frustration this title causes was especially spot on!
February 14, 2013 6:03 am Great review Paul! I completely agree with everything you said. I'm a bit surprised by the negative backlash, but I suspect time will tell on this run and this will be eventually be regarded as the classic it is. (I guess it's a good thing comic book forums didn't exist when the last issue of Watchmen came out...)
February 6, 2013 7:14 am I am shocked at how low this book is ranking on the pull list here. Not a great start for the first issue. It doesn't bode well for the life of the book.
January 20, 2013 9:05 am Congratulations! Image is getting a lot of my money lately, and this can only ensure the trend continues!
