Wow, this comic kind of sucked!
I recently bought a couple volumes of the Marvel Essentials X-Men during the Chris Claremont run. It's fantastic stuff. So I was surprised to basically see the first issue of that series being played out again. You know how Xavier pops into people's lives and gives them an offer they can't refuse? Yeah, that's exactly what happens here except it's Scott Summers and not the professor. Some mutant in Iraq is fighting terrorism and Scott shows up. One mutant is being a jackass and Xavier shows up. One character is about to murder a human and Scott shows up.
There's a character who is a wolf and acts exactly like Wolverine. Seriously. In his first featured page he actually calls someone "Bub".
I don't consider myself a hardcore X-Men fan by any means but this issue bugged the crap out of me. It suffered from the first issue problems that many comics do but aside from that with weak and unoriginal characterizations I can't recommend picking up this title.
