After reading the entire run of latest New X-Men series I was excited to see how this series was and if it continued from where New X-Men left off. unfortunately it did not live up to my expectations.
First lets start off with the good. I liked the opening scenes with Cyclops assembling the Young X-Men. It is an obvious homage to the beginning of Claremont's X-Men and shows how Cyclops has grown into Xavier's role as leader. I loved seeing Rockslide again, and was glad to see he is still the goof off he's always been. Dust was another welcome sight, and it was interesting to see what she was doing before Cyclops brought her back. I also like that Guggenheim remembered the Danger Cave and uses it here.
Now for the bad. Starting the book off showing that one of the members may die in the future is a fairly stereotypical story, especially after the casualties from New X-Men. I just can't bring myself to care too much about who is going to die. Also, the characterization of Wolf Cub bugs me. From what I've read of him before I believe he was one of the youngest students, but was drawn a lot older here. Also, I believe he was a milder character and seeing him about to kill someone is really off to me. This was probably my biggest issue for me. Also, Blindfold now seems to be drawn a bit more curvy than she was before. Again, it seems she has been aged.
The art is serviceable, but as mentioned above a lot of the characters don't look like kids. That's my only main art gripe, but to me its a pretty big one.
Overall this series has potential, but it has a lot to prove first. With very few established characters, the new ones need to pull me in and make me care about them. The ending is an interesting twist, but it could be some sort of red herring. I do have one prediction, after reading this issue, especially the ending, and the other X-Men books I think Cyclops is a Skrull. I hope he isn't, but all of the sudden he is all about killing people.

I’m definitely giving this book the benefit of the doubt because Guggenheim is writing it. On the other hand, I’m also disappointed because I think Guggenheim should be doing something much better than this.
@leland — What has Guggenheim done that’s been good? That’s not a sarcastic question; I’m just not that familiar with his previous work.
