Given the creative team, I was pretty excited about this issue and they didn’t disappoint.  Immonen is an immensly talented writer and gives all the characters their moments.  These moments, in turn, give us insight into the characters and their relationships.  Scott and Logan argue, Santo is an awkward teenager, Pixie is eager to please and friendly, Emma is the best looking guidance counselor in history (I think authors sometimes forget that Emma’s relationship with students and teaching in general is one of the things that drew her to the X-Men).

Phil Noto does a great job with layouts and the action is easy to follow.  The characters look great too.  There were the two artistic traps that worried me when I heard this book was coming out.  1.  It is tough to draw teenagers and make them look like teenagers and 2.  Artists sometimes seem to forget that Jubilee is Chinese-American and not caucasian (I’ve definitely seen her drawn to look like a white girl with dark hair).  Noto did a great job with #1 and a good job with #2.  There were times, however, during the story where I thought, “if someone showed me this page and told me that was Kitty and Logan, I wouldn’t think twice about it.”

Overall, the art was really good and the writing was wonderful.  I’m excited about Jubilee’s new direction and her change in powers and personality and I’m definitely on board with this mini.
