I didn't know diddily squat about Moon Knight until I got Issue #1 due to Conor's pow.
I loved the artwork from issue one and decided to give it another shot, even with the last issues final page appearance of the man with the power of ten billion exploding suns emanating from his armpits. Hopefully I give MoonKnight more of a shot than I did the Sentry a few years back as I don't care too much for Romita jr's artwork.
In issue #2 the artwork again is very solid with opena's pencils being greatly enhanced by mounts colors. It starts off with the sentry telling moonknight that they need to have a heart to heart about their own insanity issues. As they're talking the Sentry drags Moonknight around while saving the day superman style. It ends with Sentry stating Marc will be tested and he will fail. So will you replies Marc - all very childish. So to is the dialogue between Osborn the Hood and the guy who reads minds - excuse me for my ignorance but I have no idea who he is.
Don't know when the Hood began working for Osborn but he is ... Osborn is ranting like a lunatic is if MoonKnight is his main arch enemy "he's a thorn in my side" Osborn shouts ... didn't Moonknight just come back ?? I would hardly think Marc Spectre is a major problem for Osborn just yet. So I found that all pretty silly.
This mind reader guy tracks MoonKnight down and discovers that there is an evil lurking inside him.
The appearance of the Slug was good and he and his thugs were taken down very easily by MoonKnight as he should - I mean all in all he is just a very, very fatman.
All in all this was an enjoyable issue more for the artwork than the story but it has left me interested in finding out how he can conquer his inner demon, defeat his nemesis Raul Bushman - who will more than likely be resurrected in the next issue, and how his relationship with Marlene can develop.
That was probably my favorite part of the issue - where Marlene is late for work and can't get out of her driveway due to some removalists blocking the driveway and Marc is hovering overhead in his chopper ready to give her a lift to work. There was also a touching scene with whom I presume are his father and brother. As I said I still don't know much about the MoonKnight but I am hoping the gaps will be filled along the way.
Isn't that what makes reading comics a bit more fun - when you don't know all there is to a character and you can develop an understanding along the way? Maybe if I'd known a lot more about the previous MoonKnight I may not be enjoying this as much. Who knows?
Overall I'll give the art 5, the story a 3 and next issue another try.
Art: 5 - Excellent
The guy who reads minds is The Profiler. He plays a role in the series by Huston/Finch.
@nuclearman: Good call on the childishness of some of the dialogue and character interaction. I think all the Dark Reign writers need to sit down and discuss how the characters are going to act across the event. I get that Osborne is crazy, but he is a different kind of crazy in almost every Dark Reign title.
