Why do Jeph Loeb’s books suck so much? This book is terrible. It is not as bad as the Hulk, but it is bad.
Actually, I know why his books are so bad. He is given monster titles to helm, and he vomits every idea he can muster onto its pages. We, the comic loving fanbase, can’t help but stare at the car wreck. I am still buying this book. I hated issue 1, and will probably read all this series. That is why he succeeds. It is the same reasons traffic jams occur on the highway after an accident. We all want to watch.

I think the Jeph Loeb hate has become so overblown that people don’t give his work a fair shot anymore they just go into it assuming they will hate it and thus they do. This was a perfectly fine comic book.
I agree with conor, this wasn’t the greatest book this week, but it was far from terrible. I didn’t like Hulk or Ultimates 3, but this and Cap White 0 weren’t too bad at all…
This didn’t, surprisingly, suck. It had moments of badness – the whole blob/Janet thing – but overall it was inoffensive and moved the event forward. I’d give it a 3/3 if I’d bought/pulled it but since I read it in the store I don’t have the right to post a full review (nor should I; you should buy before you bitch, I say.)
As for the Loeb hate….well, let’s just say I’m on that bandwagon. I just bought the last few Hulk books b/c Adams and Cho but am waiting to read them all in one sitting. The first arc didn’t sit well with me (thanks, local library for being current on the trades/HCs btw) but those are two of my all time favorite artists, so heres hoping for the best. Perhaps then I’ll post something official vis-a-vis Jeph "If I suck so much why do my books sell so well" Loeb.
I’m sure ‘Captain America: White’ will be a great book, considering how great the 0 issue was. But it’s too late for me to give any type of praise for Loeb.
Conor you can say all you want that it was a ‘fine’ but no one is gonna listen. We’re in a state of rage right now with a creator that has sunk to the lowest of hell and given us some of the worst material to read in a long time. Again it just sounds like Loeb crammed way to much stuff for this issue, which is a big problem of his now a days. So deaths that happen here that should give a pause for people to think about, cant happen and we have to move on quickly to the next issue.
Plus that part with Blob eating Wasp….what the hell was that? No where in the Ultimate universe was the Blob that evil and once again Loeb puts a characterization on a character that didnt have it in the first place. The 2nd biggest problem in Loeb’s writing right now, bad characterization.
@TNC: Interesting that you say "no one will listen" when everyone who commented but you agrees with me. You should probably change that to "I won’t listen".
Yes cause I’m the only one who hates Loeb comics right now, Rob is on the bandwagon with me. So it’s not everyone conor.

He read the book and judged it on its merits, which is what I said.
No one ever said you were the only one who hates Loeb, in fact I said the exact opposite. Most people seem to hate Loeb so much that they don’t even bother judging the books on their own.
