DC has made a major misstep in promoting this title, namely, incorrectly emphasizing that the title would focus on the Trinity. It may in time, but certainly doesn't now. In what world was a back-up story featuring a tarot reader and a z-list posse of villains a good idea, editorially speaking?
That said, Trinity is a more than acceptable comic book, and credit should be given where credit's due. To use a Marvel analogy, if you set out to create a Silver Surfer epic, but end up with a Rocket Raccon romp, have you really done wrong?
Bagley(despite a certain iFanboy's comments to the contrary) is truly excellent artist, and shines here. If there's one thing USM taught us, it's that this boy knows action. I don't know if he's thought about trademakring his personal brand of kineticism, but he really should. Things crash, explode and careen with glorius abandon. He stumbles a bit with the Flash in this issue(I don't remember him having Down's Syndrome), but that's a minor quible about a minor panel.
I also love me some Mike Norton, so his panels in the back-up story were a treat, though somewhat spoiled by the hideous and overlarge panel borders. Back, ye borders, reveal unto me the image contained within!
The narritive doesn't move forward that quickly(much like a chromosonally challenged Flash might), but paces itself well enough for a weekly comic. Their really isn't much to say, as the story mostly advances the Konvict sub-plot with lots of smashing. Wonder Woman's wispered monologue during the battle was a nice touch, though. It seemed especially appropriate that Loeb would choose to have her speak aloud(albeit quietly), rather than utilize thought bubbles or boxes. After all, Wonder Woman is steeped in the past, and what better way for her to emote than the sililoquy?
