I realize this is coming a week late, but I subscribe to Marvel and only just received my copy yesterday in the mail. Sometimes I get my books on time, other times I wait weeks and wonder if I'll ever see them at all..
You can't help but feel, if you keep up with comic message boards (which you obviously do), that DC has been gaining a lot of ground on Marvel lately, with strong offerings from Johns and Morrison leading the way in the DC surgance. I've contributed as much as anyone, droppin Marvel books the way Mixmaster Mike drops beats for the Beasties (sic).
So Hearith me NOW! Thor's relaunch has been nothing short of brilliant. It's why I feel compelled to offer support for this book a week after its release. What Johns has done with Green Lantern, JMS has done with Thor. Inevitably any comment that will be found here will be made regarding that last statement. But I dare you to read thru the first ten issues of this series and not enjoy it.
The main complaint about this book makes absolutely no sense to me:
"It's taking too long for this thing to get started."
Take a look at what's happened: Thor's rebuilt Asgard, beat the hell out of Tony Stark, brought back the majority of the Gods (Sif being the last to be found - there's your dilemma) and set things straight with Odin. On the side we have the relationship between the locals and the Gods (so much fun) with a great sub-plot developing between Bill, the local, and the Goddess Kelda.
Did I forget to mention Loki? Nah. I was just saving the best for last. Loki's creating havoc on all fronts, most recently making Balder aware of his true place in the land of Asgard: would you believe he's Thor's brother and noone's told him, though they knew all along?
I just want to stress that it's not time to throw in the towel on Marvel just yet. There's still good coming from the other side of the street. While I can't fairly say Thor is Marvel's best book, because I don't read every Marvel book available. I can say it's my personal favorite and only struggles in beating itself everytime it's released.
Last, but certainly not least, Coipel. Awesome!

Great review. I feel the exact same way. I’ve been loving this Thor relaunch too. I’ve never been a Thor fan, but JMS and Olivier Copiel have made me one. I like the fact that he seems to have all this weight on his shoulders, and is almost brooding at times.
Yes, I definitely see what you are saying and I agree to a large extent. The reason it seems to everyone that nothing is happening is primarily because of the pacing, and the lack of a story that has both "meat" and "impact". Hopefully you know what I mean. We know that Asgard has been restored, but it still feels like there’s only a handful of players in this book. Let’s get the party going, people!
