This was the first issue of Kick-Ass I’ve read and I enjoyed it very much. Unlike other reviewers, I’m not so keen on the artwork: it’s a little too cartoony for my liking and I’d prefer something a bit more realistic to suit Millar’s writing. But it’s not bad enough to affect the story which was a great deal of fun. Obviously, my first reaction was to spot the similarities to Invincible, Nova and Spider-Man but I loved the tone of the story-telling: it’s just within the bounds of belief. What was special about reading this is that Kick-Ass himself is far more of a realistic teen than Peter Parker ever was: he is jealous and this drives him on to challenge his rival superhero who has the edge in the popularity stakes. When you watch the two of them together, you realise how amatuer they are in terms of being superheroes.

It’s a title I’m going to continue to read and get the first four issues that I’ve missed. It has real potential and this issue is a great jumping on point.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 2 - Average
