The quickest way to get me to lose interest in a DC Continuity story is to throw in some form of The Legion Of Superheroes.  Whenever someone puts an issue in front of me, and tells me to give it a chance, I kind of glaze over, and froth at the mouth.  I imagine this happens to some of you when people bring up The X-Men or, God Forbid, Youngblood.  Apart from a recent REBELS annual (which was spectacular), I just haven’t found a Legion story that didn’t either bore or confuse me.  And this story bored me.

I also found a few of the face Frank pencilled to be hatched to the point where they looked more creepy-alien than humanoid, and I don’t think it was intentional.

  1. So did you glaze over at the cover and not read the actual story? I am bored to tears by the Legion, but I liked that it was just a handful of them and for the bulk of the time it was just the original three from the Silver Age. In any case, I’d describe this issue as 2/3 extension of the last issue and 1/3 Legion mixed in. That said, I suppose I can understand how the mere presence of the Legion can affect your view of the overall issue.

I thought Gary Frank was 97% fantastic here, but I agree that a few of the faces were weird.

  2. I did read it.  And the story just didn’t click with me.  (And, again, just the other week I read the REBELS Annual, which was a great Legion story.)

As for the art, I couldn’t get past the faces.  I have the same problem in the dating world.
