This is the comic where Superman uses physical intimidation to force his wife to kill a news story. I will repeat, this is the comic where SUPERMAN uses physical intimidation to force his wife, LOIS LANE, to kill a news story. Bad enough that this is Clark F*n Kent going against every basic tenant of journalistic principal in the name of a bad emo fit, but the fact that he leers over Lois, you know his wife, to do so... If I did this to a friend, our relationship would certainly be almost irrevocably damaged. If I did this to someone who I claimed was my significant other, the ink on the divorce papers would not have time to dry. And I do not have bloody super-powers. To call this comic character derailment is to not even begin to do it justice. I would take a hundred OMiTs, OMD, and Rises over this nasty, hidebound, backwards thinking, head up its ass, excuse for a Superman comic. Irredeemable is doing a better job of upholding the true spirit of Superman than this piece of putrid garbage. This book is insulting to the character, the legacy of the company, and especially to us, the fans. This is the kind of comic that is put out by a company that knows it has a core audience that will buy any shit they shovel out that has a S on the cover and is happy to settle for that. How this came from the pens of the men who wrote Earth One and iZombie boggles my mind on a level that borders on cosmic. I love the DC universe, I really do. I love the games, the shows, the movies. I am playing DCU Online, anticipating Green Lantern, and loving Young Justice. I love the the DC universe, I just wish I could say the same about more of the comics that it originated from. Avoid at all costs.

I stopped reading 2 issue sinto JMS’s run, so I didn’t read this. But I loved your review.
StorytellersSJK, good review!
Looking at that solicitation information, it’s a tad misleading. I expected at least an ‘orrible monster, not chloride killing a plant or two!
In a small town near Des Moines, Iowa, Superman discovers that everyone is terrified of something, but they won’t say what – they just want The Man of Steel to leave as fast as possible. Find out what horrible secret awaits
So the fact that superpeople from the future show up to tell Superman he’s acting completely out of character (perhaps for a reason!) didn’t stand out to you?
Lois is thinking clearly, and Superman isn’t. Plus, you’ve got the ominous lady from the earlier Grounded issues stalking Supes, pleased at his moral confusion. I mean, it’s all right there in the book, man.
This review sounds like it was written by someone who skimmed the book, rather than read it.
@deantrippe I reviewed this book for the podcast I co-host, so no I unfortantely had to read it several times. I noticed those things, yes, but did not make the same assumptions for two main reasons: A. Supes has been acting increasingly emo long before Ms. Plot Contrivance entered the story and B. Nothing in this issue clearly establishes that Supes current actions are the result of outside manipulation. Could that be what is going on? Possibly, but until I have confirmation of such, I am taking the book at face value. Also Lois is thinking clearly? Really? Lois has been threatened by Lex Luthor and refused to kill a story. She has faced down her power mad father and refuesed to back down. So the idea that she would back down in the face of Clarks half assed threats… Well its terrible writing to be frank. Again maybe next issue it will turn out that Lois published the story anyways but until then I can only go by what is on the page. Even if all that did turn out to be true this still remains a ham-fisted, poorly written attempt at moral ambiguity. And FYI, the characters from the ‘future’ did not tell Supes he was acting out of character but instead simply commented on how dark things have seemed lately for him. No offense, but maybe you need to go back and read a little closer.
There you go Dean, it’s not just me …
nice one, Storyteller – what’s your podcast, I wouldn’t mind a listen?
