I am left with a blasé feeling. I hate to say this, but it felt like
Siege ended in issue 3. What we really wanted was to see Ares avenged, and we
got that in this issue. But Osborne wasn’t punished (yet), and all the bad guys
got away. But I think what I’m a bit perturbed about is the release schedule.
Did it really take so long for issue #4 to hit stands? Would I have liked this
better if I read it in trade? Maybe. But Coipel’s artwork didn’t look like he labored
for long on the pages. All the combat pages with the void were muddy, and
unfocused. Coipel’s artwork is normally crisp, and the layouts tell a strong
story, but these pages were a complete opposite, which leads me to think that
the delays were with editorial. All in all, it was a good ending, and it didn’t
spoil the ending. It was a still a good story, just not the explosive end-all
story I was looking for.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 3 - Good

Comments

  1. I agree with the timing of the issue.  Blackes Night went out with a band and on time.  And Siege was a month late which only seems to underscore how underwhelming this issue was.  The various tie ins though were outstanding and together the Siege story is fully formed and well done.  But this specific issue is a meh.

  2. The issue has an extra 6-8 pages. If we assume Coipel takes 6 weeks to do his normal 22 page comic (an 8-9 book a year pace) and that he barely got Issue 3 out on time it would make sense that it took two months to do. He definitely looked rushed, as you said. Too bad, as it felt like there were holes in the story that would have really tighhtened up the whole experience if he could have put out something more like 40 pages for this last issue. Oh well.
