As someone who has only read this event through the SIEGE book proper, I have to say that Bendis has done the impossible.  He composed a completely coherent, action packed superheroing romp into a concise and elegant four issue miniseries that loses none of its story telling power and manages to find engaging moments that let characters shine.  I was nervous about how this event would play out, but I gotta say that I’m really impressed with how much the game has changed in just 4 short issues.  This series leaves me very excited about the Marvel Universe as a whole, and I’ll definitely be checking out a lot of Marvel titles in the coming months.  In speaking about this issue specifically, Bendis did a great job of balancing the action with the character driven moments that set the stage for the new status quo.  At no point did a feel lost or cheated in the story, something I often felt with a few of his other event books.  The storytelling in this issue was great, and he paid attention to details when it came to putting the pieces into place for the last few pages (i.e. taking care of Norman properly instead of having trapse off into the sunset).

Enough can’t be said of Copiel’s art.  It’s epic, it’s amazing, and utterly fantastic.  I officially will buy anything that he draws from henceforth.  He was an absolute perfect pick for a series filled with so much action, and his layouts and detailing added such dynamism to Bendis’ story.  His art also looks fantastic with the amazing colors that start the issue with darker hues and tones that morph into bright colors that pop off of the page.

  1. Beautiful art, fairly weak writing in this series, and this issue in particular.
