Fuck yea.

Page one of this book had me sold.  It looks cool, and, oh, by the way, it’s Jonathan fucken Hickman writing a Deadpool story.  About racing.  That involves luchadores, a group of Black Santas called The Damnation Army, and Hitler Twins.  So far only thirty-six people pulled this book.  It’s because no one knew.  I didn’t know.  I just read everything.  This book…this book is ramblingly good.

Composure in 5, 4, 3, 2 —

This is clearly an all around Hickman project.  While he only handled the writing duties on the first of the four stories, the two opening stories owe much to Hickman’s own style of visual narrative  Cokker & Smith’s art on the second story being particularly reminiscent of the devices Hickman used in The Nightly News.

The third story, by Huston and Romero is kind of ho-hum.  But, given how awesome the first two , I was forgiving of its unexcitingness.

I’m really glad Marvel threw Deadpool on this cover, as that should entice more people to buy it than would normally buy a Shang-Chi book (because, frankly, there aren’t a lot of people who remember the character).  I hope their plan works.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa…..

Jonathan Hickman doing a Deadpool comic? Why didnt anyone TELL ME THIS WAS OUT!!!!????

  2. But Shang-Chi is actually in this, right?

  3. @BrianBaer: Yes, there is tons of Shang-Chi.  The first story is a buddy story between Shang-Chi and Deadpool.

@TNC: I know!!!  Nobody told me, either.

  4. Give credit where due.   The second story was Mike Benson and Tomm Coker and it was the bomb!  Benson is making a name for himself.  I also agree, the Hickman story was very good too.

  5. @Moonfan: I mentioned Benson & Crocker.  They were great.
