  1. Dude, that art was amazing, and the story had all the elements.  You couldn’t be more wrong.

  2. Story had all the elements? What elements?

    Scrap that, what story?

I think a lot of this issue was very pretty, the fight was well drawn, but that’s literally all there was. Fighting. I would have liked to see more progression of the story. Harrumph.

  3. Great review lmiller; and yes i would love to structure that first sentence in terms of grammar.

But yeah this was pretty much a huge fight scene and nothing else really developed. I’m sure the last issue will be crammed with story so Bendis can rush this event to finish. But damnit, we deserve better then this.

But I must admit, like in my review, that Watcher joke was pretty funny.

  4. First, JARVIS is still a skrull and was handed a SKRULL BABY (it had green eyes….)

Second, the purple WASP-SKRULL thing seemed to change all of the major heroes (last page). So I think this is the "change" to the MU.  What the change is I have no idea, but the heroes all changed into purble-bubbly-laughing "heroes"(?)….

    DARK REIGN indeed….

  5. @ btj: Dude, you said that on another page already.  Everyone complained that nothing was happening and now an awesome fight with several great character moments and no one is happy.  I think we just sometimes want to bitch no matter what the writers give us.

  6. @SteveM

It’s not a matter of me just wanting to bitch. I read the Superman New Krypton Special this week and loved it. And it’s also not a matter (at least for me anyway) of complaining that nothing happened in the first issues. It’s a matter of nothing important happening. No progress was being made, no significant developments were happening, everyone was just running around aimlessly. That was probably the point, and if that’s the kind of story you’re into, more power to you, but I prefer my epic events to consist of a little more than having every character in the Marvel Universe run around saying "is he a Skrull? Is SHE a Skrull? Who do I trust? Oh my God, I have no idea what’s going on!"

Yes, I get the situation is chaotic and disorienting for the heroes, but it’s also boring for me to read that over and over again. If he had wanted to do that for one, or two issues, I could’ve rolled with it. But it felt like that’s all they did in the first five issues. I liked last issue, because it felt like the plot was actually progressing, and moving towards something. And then this issue hits, and again, nothing really happens. I don’t care if they’re fighting for the entire issue, or sitting around talking for the whole issue, just as long as the story moves along, and I feel like I know something more than I did before reading that issue.

Are you seriously going to tell you anything significant happened here other than the Skrull Queen gets killed, Wasp goes nuts, and Srull Jarvis has that baby? Those things (and their buildup) happened on the last six pages, plus the one page where she leaves the baby with Jarvis. The rest of the issue had absolutely zero plot development or character development. It was a massive fight with banter. Sorry if I don’t find that to be the pinnacle of storytelling.

I get that you liked this issue, which is totally cool. Go write your own review about why it was so awesome. But don’t assume or say that people are just bitching for the sake of being snarky comic book nerds who love to bitch, when I actually had legitimate reasons for not liking this issue.

Okay, phew, rant over. You can all go back to your business now.

  7. Good review.  You nailed it.  I totally agree on both scores for art and story (2).  I’m surprised by the amount of fawning over this artist (Yu).  I realize art is a very subjective thing, but in many of the panels I could not decipher who was in it; or what action was taking place.  It’s one thing to have stylistic disagreements, but I don’t understand how people can rave about such sloppy art.  I really wanted to like this series, and there have been some good moments.  However, after reading this issue, I want my $4 back.

  8. dude, knowing how to operate a keybord doesn’t give you the right to type that much nonsense. go get your head out of your culo and read the MARVEL SECRET INVASION from issue #1!
