What do you want in a summer cross-over?  It to end in the summer?  Well Bah-humbug to you too, this train is running on time so complaining that you’re still on it means you just didn’t take the time to read the timetable before you boarded.

This is big summer blockbuster comics.  Sex and violence without the sex.  There’s no time for sex, there’s fighting to do.  It’s fast, it’s furious and it’s been what everything Bendis has been doing in the Avengers books has been building up to since we fell in love with the comedy team of Cage/Parker/Logan.  Bright colours, big explosions it’s like Power Rangers without the irony.

All of which I’ll admit is a aquired taste, and in many ways in the complete opposite of what I fell in love with Bendis’ writing for.  This isn’t the talkey-plotey-character-driven drama this is giant sized hereos hitting giant sized aliens.  You might actually be able to understand this book just fine if you had never learned to read.

But damn it’s fun.  I know it shouldn’t be.  I know I should be cynical, but Bendis is touching my inner child in ways that I probably shouldn’t go into on a public forum.  It’s pure 8-year old comic goodness.

Story: 5 - Excellent
