TODAY…WE CELEBRATE OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY !!!

I know, that line is a crude way of referencing the movie, but I got the same feeling reading SI #5 as I did watching the humans fighting back in Independence Day. I read through this book once and thought, “Okay, the only reason I feel good now is because our heroes are starting to fight back, which is what we’ve been waiting for over  the last four issues”. It’s easy to write the turnaround issue, right? After re-reading this issue several times, I was taken on a roller coaster ride of emotions. While I was feeling sorry for the Skrull agents who were obviously brainwashed into thinking they’re human, I was also elated at the chance for a little payback against the invaders. If you don’t feel just a little pity for the sleeper agents, just look at Luke Cage and Jessica Jones during the next-to-last page battle scene. Normally, I’m not one who enjoys splash pages, but the one with Maria Hill and the jet-pack was perfectly executed. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I feel that it’s just a little bit early to start celebrating the Marvel Heroes’ victory; after all, we’re only in issue #5. There’s three issues left to go, so I have to believe Bendis has a trick or two up his sleeve to keep us reading, because sales are not going to skyrocket on three straight issues of Skrull-butt-kicking.
