This was a strange week for me as I felt Flashpoint went out with a whimper and Justice League had an underwhelming start. But then I read Secret Avengers and this book surprised the hell out of me, easily becoming my pick of the week.

It’s certainly no Planetary or Transmetropolitan, but this is still the imaginative Warren Ellis I enjoy and I hope it’s what we can expect from this book going forward. The Beast that doesn’t know when to shut up and his banter with Moon Knight made for some great character moments, which is something this book has been missing.

I’m also a fan of these one and done “Run the mission! Don’t get seen! Save the World!” stories and the feeling they create could be something fun to look forward to each month.

If only McKelvie was on for the long haul, but I’ll follow him wherever he goes next. I’m still excited to see what upcoming artists like Kev Walker bring to the table.

Thumbs up to Marvel for not having a knee-jerk reaction and flooding the market this week. Instead they just give us good storytelling and beautiful art in Secret Avengers #16.
