To me when ever I read a mainstream book from Ellis, I feel like he’s writing it in a way that makes you feel like he really doesn’t like writing a book like this; he’s just doing it for the “pay check,” and he’s beneath it. But deep down he really loves it, and doesn’t want you to know it. For me when when I read something like this, it seems like an asshole move on the part of the writer. Because of how Ellis wrote this issue it really soured it for me. It felt WAY to meta, more than all of the last DC books. McKelvie could have been better too. I’ve seen him do work that just knocked my socks off; him more than Ellis is the reason I came back to this book, sadly for me it fell flat. I really want to like this book, but it still feels directionless.
