After the headspinningly confusing issues two and three this really set things back on track from the first issue’s intriguing premise and neat world building. We got a linking up of most of the strands that seemed wayward previously, which made this feel like a real advancement in the story, which is odd, because the story hardly made any steps forward at all.

Dustin Weaver’s artwork is fantastic again, a two page spread of Da Vinci flying toward the Sun was one of those sharp intake of breath moments.

In one of my favourite parts Hickman and Weaver do away with conventional panel to panel flow, and instead, work the panels from right to left and then back the other way on the next tier, a clever way to maintain interest in an otherwise slow scene.

This got me excited for issue five, shame it’s a couple of months off 🙁

Story: 5 - Excellent
