I give in.  I yield.  I surrender.  I wave the white flag.  I France.  I am bested.

iFanboy really reeeeeeeeeally wants me to read Robin.  So, fine, I delved into the archives and caught up.

I’m really not a fan of the voice-over boxes.  Spoiler’s cursive thoughts, and Tim’s regular printy narration.  I find them incredibly clunky and cumbersome, and, above all, completely unnecessary.  Without them, this would no doubt be a 5 star comic.  The story is great, and the dialogue and artwork are more than sufficient at getting the point across.  I don’t need each character explaining all their motivations in their inner-monologue, when Freddie Williams II does such a good job grafting theit thought process across their faces, and in their postures.  Crediting him as a storyteller as opposed to just artist, is very appropos here.  I kind of want to black out all the square boxes, and read this arc over and over again.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. Is Anarky going to be a big name in the future of DC? Or is he just here to torment Robin for the last couple of issues til it gets canceled?

I love Anarky, he could totally be a bigger name villain if someone could do him justice…..Grant Morrison if I may say

  2. You may say anything you like in my comments.  Anarchy rules.  As does Anarky.

I’m not sure how long he’ll be trouncing around the Bat U, but I wouldn’t complain if he sticks around to torment Gotham a little bit longer than just the next issue.

  3. Wicked! Akamuu has time travel powers!

  4. Time travel powers?

  5. Well because you reviewed this before it came out. But you explained over in your Punisher review that you work in a comic book store. I suspected this much when I checked your profile.

  6. "I France."  Well played.

I also enjoyed this issue a great deal.  I feel like I have to ask: Is this the best Batbook coming out right now?

  7. @ stulach~  Batman is the best book coming out right now.  But this one is a close second (and might be tied with Nightwing…maybe).

  8. @ stuclach: I’m enjoying Detective the most this year, and while I’m quasi-excited by the idea of Battle For The Cowl, I’m sad that BoP, Robin & Nightwing all have to go by the wayside.
